We are happy to share that the Springer Nature book on Teaching Psychology Globally by Grant J. Rich, Emily Nordmann, H. Russell Searight, M. Ruth Mampane, John Reece, and Alfredo Padilla Lopez is now published.
In this book chapter, we highlight how local experiences and initiatives are shaping the field and inspiring future psychologists to prioritize environmental justice and sustainability.

๐๐๐ข๐จ๐ง ๐ง๐๐ ๐๐ข๐ข๐ ๐๐๐๐ฃ๐ง๐๐ฅ | Environmental psychology remains a Global North-dominated field, where insights from Global South nations are rarely recognized and often minoritized. The Philippines, as a Global South country with rich experiences in facing and adapting to extreme environmental hazards, provided a context that has sparked the birth and growth of a locally-grounded and global-oriented Environmental Psychology. This chapter aims to showcase the emerging and organic development of Environmental Psychology through teaching and research initiatives. We highlight how the integration of Environmental Psychology into the university curricula and professional organizations could increase the interests of the next generations of Filipino environmental psychologists. We also outlined some of the locally-relevant research themes that local scholars currently pursue, as well as their commitment to environmental preservation that prioritizes justice and fairness. The future directions of Environmental Psychology in the Philippines aim to evolve into an impact-focused, context-relevant, and policy-oriented psychological science.

Let's break the chain. Stop saying NATURAL disasters - and others will follow. ๐ก
There is no such thing as a natural disaster! โ
A hurricane, earthquake, or flood is a natural hazardโbut it only becomes a disaster when people are unprotected, exposed, and vulnerable due to the lack of preparedness, inequalities or other vulnerabilities. ๐ฅ๐
By calling disasters "natural," we ignore the human choices that cause disaster โ and the actions we can take to prevent them.
Next time you hear that phrase โ โnatural disasterโ โ step up and correct the speaker: ๐ฌ โThere is no such thing as a natural disaster.โ Together, we can break the chain and shift the narrative!
