These activities are non-preferred for Amarah, and she often completes them while whining. Even so, we encourage her to finish because these tasks help build important fine motor skills, independence, and perseverance.

Lacing

What it is: Threading a lace or string through holes in a card, bead, or shoe.

Benefits:

* Improves fine motor skills
* Develops hand-eye coordination
* Strengthens finger muscles
* Encourages bilateral coordination (using both hands together)
* Builds concentration and sequencing skills
* Prepares children for tying shoelaces

Snapping

What it is: Opening and closing snap fasteners on clothing or therapy boards.

Benefits:

* Strengthens finger and hand muscles
* Improves pincer grasp (thumb and index finger)
* Enhances finger dexterity
* Promotes independence in dressing
* Improves coordination and motor planning

This is the very first time I was able to record her calling me “Mommy.”

It may sound like just one word to others, but to me, it was everything.

Hearing her call me “Mommy” in a clear, loud voice felt like the most beautiful music I’ve ever heard. A moment I’ve prayed for, waited for, and will treasure forever.

To every parent celebrating what others may see as “small” milestones keep believing. Every word, every step, every breakthrough carries a story of love, patience, and hope.
