| via TV Patrol

With this post we mark the finale of Project Preserba’s awareness campaign on the innovative field that is Audiovisual Archiving.
We, the Project Preserba team, are students from the UP Diliman School of Library and Information Studies taking up a class on LIS 198 (Audiovisual Archiving). This class was an opportunity to learn and be immersed in the practice and theory of audiovisual archiving whose pioneers in the Philippines have laid down before us.
We would also like to express sincere gratitude to Ms. Julie Nealega, the class instructor of LIS 198, for her guidance and passion in this field which allowed us to create an infohub that informs through social media. Raising awareness on audiovisual materials in an era where technology trends come and go does not happen overnight, but small acts such as this project can be a good start to preserving the knowledge of the past and its heritage, and allow the future to learn and grow from it.
Although this marks the end of this campaign, we invite you to check every corner of your home, open those cardboard/plastic boxes, and start preserving audiovisual materials however you can.

Last week, we learned about protecting audio cassettes… but what about video tapes? 🎞️
In this post, we explore common preservation threats along with proper handling and recovery methods. We also share key home archiving DO’s and DON’Ts and emergency preparedness tips to help protect these fragile materials.
As audiovisual formats continue to age, proper care and awareness are essential in preventing the loss of valuable memories and cultural history.
