Part I - Describing
What are the Fundamental Concepts of Geometry?
In geometry, fundamental concepts are the most basic ideas that cannot be defined using simpler figures. Instead, we describe them so everyone understands what they represent.
These are the undefined terms;
A point is like a dot in space. It represents a location.
A line is an endless path of points in opposite directions.
A plane is a flat surface. Made of an endless path of points that extends in all directions.
From these undefined terms, we can create these pieces of geometric figures;
A line segment is a part of a line that has endpoints.
A ray is a part of a line that begins with an endpoint and extends forever in one direction.
An angle is formed by two opposite rays that share a common endpoint, called the vertex.
