🌱 STRENGTHENING PARTNERSHIP FOR EARLY GRADE EDUCATION

Ayala Foundation, Inc. (AFI) and Palawan State University (PSU) Advance the CENTEX Early Grades Program in Palawan

Palawan State University (PSU) welcomed representatives from Ayala Foundation, Inc. (AFI) on September 29, 2026, for a productive discussion on the progress, continuing implementation, and expansion of the CENTEX Early Grades Program in Palawan.

Mr. Lorenzo Buenaflor, CENTEX Early Grades Project Lead, and Ms. Gucci Trinidad, Senior Director for Big Bets in Education, met with PSU University President Dr. Venzon L. Limpiada and University Extension Services Office (UESO) Director Dr. Imelda C. Pacaldo to discuss the program’s developments and future directions.

As part of the continuing partnership, AFI has already conducted capacity-building and training activities for Bachelor of Elementary Education educators and trainers from the PSU Main Campus–College of Teacher Education and PSU Roxas Campus, contributing to the strengthening of early-grade teaching and learning practices.

For Academic Year 2026–2027, AFI presented its planned activities, including Mentoring and Professional Learning Community sessions, Parent Enrichment Workshops, and Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning (MEAL) benchmarks to support effective implementation and continuous improvement of the program.

The courtesy visit also provided an opportunity to affirm and explore the continued support of the new university administration for the implementation of the CENTEX Early Grades Program in El Nido, further strengthening the partnership toward improved early-grade education in Palawan.

🤝 The University Extension Services Office (UESO) remains committed to supporting and facilitating this partnership, helping connect the university’s academic expertise, faculty engagement, and community extension initiatives with programs that contribute to meaningful and sustainable educational outcomes.

Through the continuing collaboration of AFI and PSU, the University joins efforts to strengthen educators, engage families, and empower young learners toward a stronger foundation for lifelong learning.

📕 STRENGTHENING EXTENSION SERVICES THROUGH BENCHMARKING

The Palawan State University – University Extension Services Office (UESO) proudly recognizes the PalawanSU College of Engineering for the successful conduct of its Extension Services Benchmarking Activity held on September 24, 2026, at De La Salle University – Manila, and September 25, 2026, at the University of the Philippines – Diliman.

🎯 PURPOSE OF THE ACTIVITY

The benchmarking activity was undertaken to learn from established practices, strategies, systems, and innovations in university extension services, particularly in program planning and development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation, documentation, community engagement, partnership-building, sustainability, and institutional support.

It also aimed to identify relevant practices and approaches that may be adapted and integrated into the College’s extension initiatives to further enhance the quality, responsiveness, sustainability, and impact of its programs and services for partner communities.

The activity was enriched by the expertise of 𝗠𝗿. 𝗝𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗻𝗶 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝘂, 𝗢𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗿, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗠𝗿. 𝗥𝗲𝘆𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗸 𝗔𝗿𝗿𝗼𝗰𝗼, 𝗣𝗼𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗿𝘆 𝗦𝘂𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗼𝗿, 𝗼𝗳 𝗠𝗦𝗚 𝗔𝗾𝘂𝗮-𝗣𝗼𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗿𝘆-𝗔𝗴𝗿𝗶 𝗙𝗮𝗿𝗺 – 𝗡𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗮 𝗕𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗵. Beyond the training session, they visited the existing native chicken poultry of the Pag-Asa Agricultural Workers’ Association and provided hands-on technical guidance on the proposed poultry house for Dekalb chickens, with emphasis on biosecurity, proper housing, and poultry care and management.

🌱 The activity also included the 𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐧𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐨𝐟 𝐯𝐞𝐠𝐞𝐭𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐬𝐞𝐞𝐝𝐬 to support the organization’s communal gardening initiative, another step toward diversified and sustainable livelihood opportunities.

A particularly meaningful moment was the return of 𝐌𝐬. 𝐈𝐫𝐢𝐬 𝐀. 𝐀𝐥𝐞𝐠𝐫𝐞, former team leader of the 4th-year BS Social Work students who helped organize the Pag-Asa Agricultural Workers’ Association. She returned to the community not only as a 𝐑𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐒𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐞𝐫, but also as 𝐓𝐨𝐩 𝟗 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐒𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐤 𝐋𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐄𝐱𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧. The community that once welcomed her as a student intern welcomed her back with joy and pride, celebrating how far she has come since the days they worked together.

The University Extension Services Office (UESO) conducted the 𝐄𝐱𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐂𝐨𝐨𝐫𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐬' 𝐎𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐀𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐩 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐄𝐱𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐂𝐚𝐦𝐩𝐮𝐬𝐞𝐬 on 𝐒𝐞𝐩𝐭𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝟐𝟒, 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔, at the 𝐏𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐰𝐚𝐧𝐒𝐔 𝐌𝐚𝐢𝐧 𝐂𝐚𝐦𝐩𝐮𝐬, 𝐇𝐨𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐥. The activity brought together Extension Coordinators from the University's external campuses to review the progress of their extension programs and projects during the first half of Fiscal Year 2026 and identify priorities for the remainder of the year.

UESO Director 𝐃𝐫. 𝐈𝐦𝐞𝐥𝐝𝐚 𝐂. 𝐏𝐚𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐝𝐨 delivered the opening remarks, followed by a message from 𝐃𝐫. 𝐌𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐚 𝐍. 𝐋𝐮𝐜𝐞𝐫𝐨, 𝘝𝘪𝘤𝘦 𝘗𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘪𝘥𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘌𝘹𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘯𝘢𝘭 𝘊𝘢𝘮𝘱𝘶𝘴𝘦𝘴. Dr. Pacaldo then presented the UESO Report, after which 𝐌𝐫. 𝐋𝐞𝐬𝐛𝐞𝐫𝐭 𝐋. 𝐁𝐚𝐲𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐲, 𝘜𝘌𝘚𝘖 𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘰𝘯𝘯𝘦𝘭, provided an update on the FY 2026 budget.

The Campus Extension Coordinators presented their Action Plans and discussed concerns on the coordination and implementation of their respective programs.

💬 NSTP AND UESO: DISCUSSING COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT AND EXTENSION INITIATIVES

The National Service Training Program (NSTP) and the University Extension Services Office (UESO) of Palawan State University (PalawanSU) recently engaged in a meaningful discussion on community engagement, extension initiatives, and opportunities for student involvement in community service.

🌱 PALAWANSU BSSW CONDUCTS TWO-DAY SEMINAR-WORKSHOP FOR PPSRNP COMMUNITY ORGANIZERS AND PERSONNEL

The Palawan State University Bachelor of Science in Social Work (BSSW) Program of the College of Arts and Humanities (CAH), in collaboration with the PalawanSU Graduate School, through Prof. Eva Marie Ponce de Leon, successfully conducted a two-day seminar-workshop for the PPSRNP community organizers and personnel.

The activity forms part of “Helping the Helpers,” a project under the BSSW S.H.A.R.E. Program, designed to strengthen the knowledge, skills, well-being, and capacity of those who dedicate themselves to serving and empowering communities.

Our heartfelt congratulations and appreciation to the dedicated faculty members of the BSSW Program, led by Ma’am Gemma Bobis-Geriane, Project Leader, and to Dr. Marissa D. Mendoza, CAH Extension Coordinator, for their commitment to meaningful and impactful extension initiatives.

We also extend our sincere gratitude to the supportive CAH Dean, Atty. Rhodel S. Magrata, for the continued encouragement and support for programs that bring the university’s expertise closer to the communities it serves.

📚 UESO PERSONNEL SERVE AS SPEAKERS IN CCJE WORKSHOP ON DESIGNING SUSTAINABLE COMMUNITY PROJECTS

The University Extension Services Office (UESO) of Palawan State University (PalawanSU) shared its expertise during the College of Criminal Justice Education (CCJE) Extension Workshop: “Designing Sustainable Community Projects,” held on September 4, 2026, at the PalawanSU Hostel.

The workshop featured UESO personnel who shared valuable insights and practical guidance on strengthening the planning, management, and implementation of sustainable community extension initiatives.

🎤 Ms. Jovelyn May E. Godino, UESO Personnel, discussed University Extension Targets and Performance Expectations, as well as Strategic Planning and Management of Extension. Her session emphasized the importance of aligning extension initiatives with institutional priorities, measurable targets, and sustainable outcomes.

🎤 Ms. Remelyn Pelicano, UESO Personnel, discussed Institutional Processes and Protocols Throughout Project Implementation, highlighting the importance of adhering to established policies and procedures to ensure effective, accountable, and well-managed extension projects.

Led by Ms. Grace Taba, CCJE Extension Coordinator, and strongly supported by Dr. Sauda Leging, CCJE College Dean, the activity provided CCJE faculty members with valuable knowledge and practical insights to further strengthen their capacity to design and implement meaningful, responsive, and sustainable community extension initiatives.

“Research and Extension for Resilient and Sustainable Palawan”

The University Research and Extension Offices successfully held the 2026 PalawanSU Research and Extension Forum on August 26–27, 2026, with the theme, “Research and Extension for Resilient and Sustainable Palawan.”

The opening program was graced by the Opening Remarks of Dr. Frances Muriel L. Tuquero, Vice President for Research, Development, and Extension, represented by Dr. Imelda C. Pacaldo, Director of the University Extension Services Office. This was followed by an Inspirational Message from Dr. Venzon L. Limpiada, University President, represented by Atty. Rhodel S. Magrata, Dean of the College of Arts and Humanities.

The keynote address was delivered by Dr. Roger Dolorasa, Head of the Publication and Printing Unit and Editor-in-Chief of The Palawan Scientist. He underscored the transformative role of university research in generating knowledge, addressing community needs, and developing practical solutions to real-world challenges.

𝐃𝐚𝐲 𝟏: 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝐅𝐨𝐫𝐮𝐦

The first day placed research at the forefront, showcasing accomplishments, exchanging ideas, connecting expertise, and advancing solutions responsive to the needs of Palawan and its communities.

A total of seventeen (17) completed research projects were presented, representing diverse research initiatives supported through internal funding, external funding, and personal initiatives.

The first day concluded with closing remarks from Prof. Lea M. Camangeg, Director of the University Research and Creative Works Office.

𝐃𝐚𝐲 𝟐: 𝐄𝐱𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐅𝐨𝐫𝐮𝐦

The second day highlighted the presentation of Extension projects and emphasized the significant role of extension in translating knowledge into meaningful action and creating positive impact in communities.

Dr. Imelda C. Pacaldo, Director of the University Extension Services Office (UESO), delivered the Welcome Remarks, followed by the presentation of the Forum Mechanics and Introduction of Panelists by Mr. Lesbert L. Bayanay, UESO Personnel.

The distinguished panelists were:
• Mr. Richard T. Urmenita, Director, Quality Assurance Office, Western Philippines University
• Ms. Camille Fey G. Cabate, Community Development Officer II, Department of Agriculture
• Dr. Cymbeline S. Martinez, Panel Chair and Chairperson, Social Work Department, College of Arts and Humanities, Palawan State University

The panelists shared valuable insights, comments, and recommendations that will further strengthen the implementation and impact of the University’s Extension projects.

A total of ten (10) Extension projects were presented, highlighting the importance of extension work and its contribution to improving the lives of individuals, families, and communities in Palawan.
