QUALITY ASSURANCE IN ACTION: IPQAIA-UQAC Conducts Technical Assistance and Evaluation Visit to PalawanSU Taytay and El Nido Campuses

The Integrated Planning, Quality Assurance, and Internal Audit (IPQAIA) Office, through the University Quality Assurance Center (UQAC), successfully conducted an on-site evaluation visit to Palawan State University (PalawanSU) Taytay and El Nido Campuses on September 1–4, 2026.

The four-day activity aimed to evaluate academic programs, align operations with quality standards, and provide technical guidance in preparation for the upcoming Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities in the Philippines (AACCUP) accreditation survey.

The evaluation focused on four key academic programs across both campuses:

🎓 PalawanSU – Taytay Campus (Applying for Level III Accreditation)
• BS in Information Technology
• BS in Hospitality Management (Specialized Track for Hotel Resort and Club Management)
• BS in Business Administration major in Marketing Management

🎓 PalawanSU – El Nido Campus (Applying for Preliminary Survey Visit Accreditation)
• BS in Criminology

Point persons leading the review included Quality Assurance Officers Ms. Lani G. Berganio, Ms. Antoiñette A. Gacayan, and Ms. Marielle Ann F. Astacaan, along with University Librarian Mr. Christian Robert B. Nalica.

The evaluation kicked off with an orientation on the Preliminary Survey Visit and Third Accreditation Survey Visit, followed by a thorough document review and refinement phase. The Internal Quality Assurance Team (IQAT) presented key observations and practical recommendations to strengthen program compliance.

The initiative was warmly received and fully supported by OIC Cluster Dean of the Del Norte Campus / El Nido Campus Director Mr. Reynaldo Q. Empas, Taytay Campus Director Ms. Kate S. Fenix, Taytay QA Coordinator Mr. Ace York Mangalino, El Nido QA Coordinator Mr. Aladin A. Mahilum, alongside program heads, faculty members, and staff.

This quality assurance effort highlights PalawanSU’s dedication to institutional excellence, continuous improvement, and sustainable education.

The on-site activity aimed to evaluate academic programs, ensure alignment with accreditation standards, and provide strategic technical guidance in preparation for the upcoming Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities in the Philippines (AACCUP) accreditation survey visit.

The evaluation focused on three key academic programs applying for Level III Accreditation:

🎓 Bachelor of Elementary Education
🎓 Bachelor of Secondary Education major in English, Mathematics, and Social Sciences

The evaluation team was composed of IPQAIA Director/Quality Assurance Director Dr. MaryAnn A. Artizuela, Quality Assurance Officer Ms. Lani G. Berganio, University Librarian Mr. Christian Robert B. Nalica, and Administrative Aide Ms. Marielle Ann F. Astacaan.

The visit opened with an orientation on the Third Accreditation Survey Visit, followed by an intensive review, document validation, and enhancement phase. The Internal Quality Assurance Team (IQAT) presented key observations and actionable recommendations to address areas for improvement and sharpen program compliance.

The activity was fully supported by OIC Cluster Dean of the Occidental Campus Prof. Remedios Magbanua, Campus Director Prof. Niño Sumagingsing, QA Coordinator Prof. Shiela Marie Fernandez, alongside program heads, faculty members, and staff, who actively participated throughout the evaluation process.

‎The Palawan State University–Coron Campus has successfully concluded its three-day Internal Audit held from August 24 to 26, 2026. The activity forms part of the University’s continuing commitment to uphold transparency, accountability, and adherence to institutional standards and quality requirements.
‎
‎The audit engaged various student organizations, faculty members, and administrative personnel across the campus’ respective offices and departments. Throughout the duration of the audit, the internal audit team conducted ocular inspections of campus facilities, reviewed pertinent documents and records, and held interviews with faculty and administrators to evaluate compliance with established policies, procedures, and regulatory guidelines.

‎In the context of Higher Education, internal auditing serves as a critical mechanism to ensure that institutional policies are duly implemented, financial records are accurately maintained, and operational procedures are consistent with the University’s mission, vision, and quality assurance framework.
‎
‎The audit findings were formally presented by Mr. Manny B. Matugas, Internal Auditor II, Ms. Hannah Faith Navarro, and Mr. Philipp Amer U. Fatalla. The auditors acknowledged commendable practices observed across offices and organizations, while likewise identifying Opportunities for Improvement (OFIs) to further enhance efficiency and compliance. The results of the audit are expected to guide future programs and initiatives toward strengthening institutional governance and service delivery.

‎In his message, Campus Director Mr. Mark Justine P. Vicera reaffirmed the Campus Administration’s commitment to sustaining the University’s standards and ensuring full compliance with existing policies and procedures. As recognition of their service, members of the audit team were conferred with Certificates of Appreciation for their professionalism and diligence throughout the evaluation process.

‎Delivering the closing remarks, Ms. Juwelyn P. Fabon, Gender and Development (GAD) Coordinator officially concluded the three-day activity.
