Lower Maton Elementary School Launches “Project GROW MATON” to Maximize Idle Land and Promote Sustainability

Pudtol, Apayao – July 23, 2025 — Lower Maton Elementary School, under the leadership of Mr. Kimberly S. Macadangdang, has officially launched “Project GROW MATON: Green Resources for Opportunities and Wealth”, an innovative and income-generating initiative aimed at transforming idle school land into a productive and educational eco-farm.

On July 22, 2025, Mr. Macadangdang personally requested the support of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources – Community Environment and Natural Resources Office DENR-CENRO Calanasan in San Gregorio, Luna, Apayao. In a prompt and generous response, DENR-CENRO granted the school 100 coffee seedlings, 10 guava, 10 guyabano, 10 mabolo,10 rambutan seedlings and 70 mahogany seedlings as additional.

The following day, these seedlings were planted by parents and TUPAD (Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers) beneficiaries, reflecting strong community engagement and support for the school’s environmental advocacy.

Prior to this, learners and teachers also took part by planting mulberry cuttings, marking their active participation in greening the school and enhancing their learning experience.

The project aims to utilize the school’s 1.5-hectare land, of which only 25 percent is occupied by buildings. Through this initiative, the remaining open land is being transformed into a productive, eco-friendly space that can serve as a future source of income and a living laboratory for students.

“This project is not only a livelihood opportunity but also a way of bringing the curriculum to life,” shared Mr. Kimberly S. Macadangdang, school principal. “We hope that one day, Lower Maton Elementary School will produce its own coffee and offer mulberry picking experiences, creating both learning and livelihood opportunities for our community.”

Project GROW MATON is aligned with the K to 12 curriculum, specifically supporting learning areas such as Science, Edukasyong Pantahanan at Pangkabuhayan (EPP), GMRC, and other related subjects. It is a model of how schools can innovate for sustainability, empower communities, and foster real-world learning experiences for children.

As the seedlings take root, so does the school’s commitment to environmental stewardship, community involvement, and innovative education.

LGU-Pudtol MIS Office Donates ICT Peripherals to Lower Maton Elementary School
Lower Maton, Pudtol, Apayao – Sir Silver Ian Dimaano, Head of the MIS Office of LGU-Pudtol, together with his team, donated keyboards and computer pointing devices to Lower Maton Elementary School to ensure that learners can immediately use the computers on the first week of classes.

This support follows the recent ICT Caravan in response to the request of School Principal Kimberly S. Macadangdang for the repair of 12 desktop units. The donation also forms part of LGU-Pudtol’s participation in Brigada Eskwela 2025.

The school extends its sincere appreciation for this continued support in promoting digital learning.
