STRENGTHENING READING PRACTICES, ONE LEARNER AT A TIME

The Pres. Roxas South District successfully conducted its District In-Service Training on Strengthening Competencies in the Administration, Scoring, Interpretation, and Utilization of the Philippine Informal Reading Inventory (Phil-IRI) for Grades 4โ€“6, Grades 7โ€“8, and School Heads, held at Doรฑa Concordia B. Jayme Central Elementary School.

Led by our dedicated Public Schools District Supervisor, Dr. Jemz B. Evangelio, EdD, the training provided our teachers and school heads with a deeper understanding of how Phil-IRI results can be properly gathered, understood, and most importantly, used to respond to the actual reading needs of our learners.

Because reading assessment is not simply about numbers and scores. Behind every result is a learner who needs the right support, the right intervention, and a teacher who knows where to begin.

Our heartfelt appreciation goes to our competent facilitators for sharing their knowledge and patiently guiding the participants throughout the sessions; to our dedicated participants for their active involvement and commitment to improving reading instruction; to the members of the Technical Working Group (TWG) who worked behind the scenes to make the activity meaningful and organized; and to our host school, Doรฑa Concordia B. Jayme CES, for the warm welcome and support.

Special recognition is also given to our Elementary and Secondary Reading Coordinators, whose continuing efforts help keep reading at the heart of our district's work.

May this learning translate into better assessment, more responsive interventions, and more confident readers. Together, let us continue building a culture where every child is given the opportunity, patience, and support to become a successful reader.

When we understand where our learners are, we can better guide them to where they need to be.
