MCES journalists win at DSPC 2026

Malalag Central Elementary School (MCES) proudly showcased its young journalists’ skills and talents during the Division Schools Press Conference (DSPC) 2026, held at Sulop National High School, Sulop, Davao del Sur.

The school earned several awards across different individual and group categories, demonstrating the learners’ dedication, creativity, and passion for campus journalism.

Leading the winners was Ary Floriam D. Sampiano, who secured 1st Place in Pinakamahusay na Tagapag-ulat under Radio Scriptwriting and Broadcasting – Filipino. Ayeesha G. Gingco followed with 2nd Place in Pinakamahusay na Tagapagbalita.

MCES also garnered 3rd Place finishes. Earl B. Estita placed 3rd in Copy Editing and Headline Writing, while Martin Rich C. Tenorio earned 3rd Place in Pagsulat ng Agham at Teknolohiya.

In the Radio Scripwriting and Broadcasting-Filipino, composed of Jamaicah O. Abian, Ayeesha G. Gingco, Jeff Isaac M. Java, Ary Floriam D. Sampiano, Francheska B. Javellana, Reycel Kaye N. Alcasid, and Teresa Claire C. Bingcal earned 3rd Place in Pinakamahusay sa Paggawa ng Infomercial, as well as 4th Place in Pinakamahusay sa Pagsulat ng Iskrip and 4th Place in Pinakamahusay sa Pangkalahatang Produksyong Panradyo. The team also placed 5th in Pinakamahusay na Aplikasyong Teknikal.

Other individual awardees included Ariana Grace G. Corvera, who placed 4th in Editorial Writing; JL Erich Novem G. Montenegro, who placed 5th in Pagsulat ng Kolum; Mary Hope C. Militante, who placed 7th in Pagwawasto ng Sipi at Pag-uulo ng Balita; and Ella Mavic L. Firmalino, who placed 7th in Photojournalism.

Adding to the school’s achievements, MCES also emerged as Second Runner-Up in the Filipino Group Event, further highlighting the learners’ teamwork, confidence, creativity, and communication skills.

Behind these accomplishments were the dedicated coaches who continuously guided and trained the learners; Rosalie P. Moranta, Jee Jessa L. Hamili, Rea Joy M. Occillada, Judy Marie N. Canoy, Christine Mae F. Camilo, and Reylann Louise Mae G. Sulatan.

The victories at the DSPC 2026 reflect the commitment of the learners, coaches, and the entire Malalag Central Elementary School community to developing responsible, creative, and skilled young communicators.

With these accomplishments, MCES continues to nurture its learners’ talents and inspire them to use their voices, stories, and skills to inform, empower, and make a difference in their school and community.

The Voice Behind the Victory

Ayeesha G. Gingco, a student-journalist from Malalag Central Elementary School was hailed as the 'Second Best Anchor' (Radio Scriptwriting and Broadcasting, Filipino) during the 2026 Division Schools Press Conference.

How did she win? This is her story.

Three long years.

She stayed. She waited. And she never gave up.

Gingco started her journey as an anchor for MCES Radio Scriptwriting and Broadcasting when she was only in Grade 4. Now in Grade 6, her final year of elementary school, she continues to carry with her the passion and dedication she has developed throughout her journey.

Three years of waiting, trying, learning, and holding on to a dream that never seemed easy to reach. Yet through every challenge, she never give up. Instead, she kept showing up with the same passion, the same determination, and the same love for campus journalism.

There were moments when the path became uncertain. When their team faced the possibility of being broken apart, she could have simply stepped back. But instead, she asked if she could join an individual event just so she could continue representing our school, and the journalism program she had remained loyal to for so long.

That simple request said so much about her.
She wasn't just chasing a title. She was holding on to something she truly loved– Campus Journalism.

And after three years of perseverance, she finally earned her spot in the Regional Schools Press Conference– a moment that makes this achievement so much more meaningful.

Today, we celebrate not only the title of Best Radio Broadcaster, but the story behind it.

A story of a girl who stayed when it would have been easier to leave.
A girl who waited when nothing was certain.
A girl who continued when the journey became tiring.
A girl who believed that perhaps, one day, all the waiting would be worth it.

And today, it is.

Ayeesha, we are immensely proud of you. You stayed. You waited. You persevered. And God saw every single hard work, every practice, every disappointment, every moment you chose to keep going.

Your journey reminds us that sometimes, the greatest victories are not the ones that come quickly, but the ones we earn after refusing to give up.

MCES ATHLETES WIN BRONZE MEDALS AT DAVSURDAA MEET 2026

Malalag Central Elementary School (MCES) athletes displayed determination, skill, and sportsmanship as they secured several bronze medals in the recently concluded Davao del Sur Athletic Association (DavSurDAA) Meet 2026.

Leading the school’s achievements was Atisha Graeanna M. Mahinay, who captured the bronze medal in Floor Exercise under the Women’s Artistic Gymnastics (WAG) – Cluster 1competition. She was coached by Ma’am Leona Antipuesto, whose guidance and support contributed to her impressive performance.

The MCES Lawn Tennis Team also delivered commendable performances in the elementary girls’ and boys’ divisions under the guidance of coaches Ma’am Sharon Sañada and Ma’am Roberly Clamocha.

In Tennis Elementary Girls – Singles A, Princess Thea B. Dequito earned a bronze medal, showcasing her skill, composure, and fighting spirit on the court.

In the Doubles event, the tandem of Zenna Dean B. Medez and Kim Yorie T. Banga also secured bronze, adding another medal to MCES’ growing haul.

Meanwhile, in Tennis Elementary Boys – Singles B, Philip C. Lofranco, battled through the competition and claimed another bronze medal.

These accomplishments reflect the athletes’ hard work, discipline, and dedication, as well as the unwavering support of their coaches, teachers, parents, and the entire MCES community.

As the DavSurDAA Meet 2026 comes to a close, the athletes return home not only with medals but also with valuable experiences that will inspire them to continue striving for excellence in sports and in school.

MCES Dancesport Team clinches GOLD in DavSurDAA Meet 2026

'BOUND FOR REGIONAL MEET'

The Malalag Central Elementary School (MCES) Dancesport Team emerged victorious after clinching the championship in the Juvenile Latin category during the ongoing Davao del Sur Athletic Association (DavsurDAA) Meet 2026.

The dynamic pair of Matt Kristoff A. Cabante and Heyns Leanne B. Ayala delivered a powerful performance, securing 'gold' in all five events and earning the overall Grade A distinction.

The champions topped the following Latin dances:

Samba – 1st Place
Cha-Cha-Cha – 1st Place
Rumba – 1st Place
Paso Doble – 1st Place
Jive – 1st Place
Grade A – GOLD

Guiding the young dancers throughout the competition are their coaches, Sir Jessie Gohil and Ma'am Christine Mae Camilo with their Dancesport trainers, Sir Patrick Jezter Bacus and Sir James Andrew Retes, whose dedication and guidance contributed to the team's outstanding performance.

With their championship finish, Cabante and Ayala will represent the Division of Davao del Sur in the Davao Region Athletic Association Meet (DAVRAA) Meet 2027, earning them a spot on the provincial delegation.

Meanwhile, MCES also celebrated another strong performance in the Juvenile Standard category, as Sean Andriel B. Garcia and Krishna Gaea L. Tan captured 'silver' in all five events:

Slow Waltz – 2nd Place
Tango – 2nd Place
Viennese Waltz – 2nd Place
Foxtrot – 2nd Place
Quickstep – 2nd Place
Grade A – Silver

The achievements of the MCES Dancesport Team reflect not only the dancers' talent and determination but also the commitment of their coaches, trainers, teachers, and especially their families, whose unwavering support, encouragement, time, and sacrifices helped the young athletes reach the competition stage.

As MCES celebrates this remarkable achievement, the gold medalists, Cabante and Ayala now set their sights on a bigger challenge, DAVRAA Meet 2027— carrying with them the pride of Malalag Central Elementary School, Malalag District, and the entire province of Davao del Sur.

🥇 MCES STRIKES FIRST GOLD AT DAVSURDAA MEET 2026

Jessica Rico, a grade six student-athlete of Malalag Central Elementary School, delivers a golden breakthrough for capturing the school’s FIRST GOLD in the ongoing Davao del Sur Athletic Association (DavSurDAA) Meet 2026 and got a 'golden ticket' to represent the division of Davao del Sur in the upcoming Davao Region Athletic Association (DavRAA) Meet.

Rico proudly earned her spot to represent in the regional meet, after an impressive performance in the following events:

400 Meter Run
Girls-Elementary: GOLD
1500 Meter Run
Girls-Elementary: SILVER
800 Meter Run
Girls-Elementary: BRONZE

This achievement is a testament of her hard work, discipline, determination, and passion for running.

Her success is also a reflection of the dedication and guidance of her coaches, Ma'am Miles Delloro and Ma'am Reylann Louise Mae Sulatan, who continue to train, encourage, and inspire her to reach her full potential.

Malalag Central Elementary School Ready to Welcome DavSurDAA Meet 2026

MALALAG, DAVAO DEL SUR — Malalag Central Elementary School together with the whole Malalag District are all set to host the Opening Ceremony of the 2026 Davao del Sur Athletic Association (DavSurDAA) Meet today, September 3, 2026, at 4:00 p.m. at the Malalag Central Elementary School Ground, Poblacion, Malalag, Davao del Sur.

Athletes from the different districts of Davao del Sur will gather for the much-awaited Saludo March, marking the official opening of this year’s athletic meet and showcasing the strength, discipline, sportsmanship, and unity of the province’s young athletes.

The event is expected to bring together athletes, coaches, school officials, parents, and sports enthusiasts as Davao del Sur celebrates another season of athletic excellence.

MCES Taekwondo Athletes Capture Gold at Malalag Athletic Association Meet

Malalag Central Elementary School (MCES) secured its first gold medals in the Taekwondo competition during the 2026 Malalag Athletic Association Meet, as its young athletes delivered impressive performances in both Kyurogi and Poomsae.

In Kyurogi, gold medalists were Reycel Kaye N. Alcasid, Princess Heart F. Ferrer, and JL Novem G. Montenegro. In Poomsae, Francheska B. Javellana clinched the gold, adding another victory for the school.

The athletes were coached by Mrs. Charie B. Dequito, whose guidance and dedication helped the team achieve the feat.

The victories mark a strong start for MCES in the athletic meet, bringing pride and honor to the school and the Malalag community. 🥋🥇
