Monicayo Integrated School Teacher Named Regional Nominee for National IPEd Search

MABALACAT CITY – Mrs. Marissa S. Sison, Teacher III of Monicayo Integrated School and a member of the Indigenous Peoples (IP) community, has been selected as one of two Regional Nominees for the National Search for Exemplary Indigenous Peoples Education (IPEd) Teachers.

She earned the recognition after a competitive regional selection process on September 23, 2026, involving about 17 IP teachers from across Central Luzon. Mrs. Sison will represent DepEd Region III in the national search.

The award highlights outstanding educators who promote inclusive, culturally responsive, and equitable education for Indigenous learners. Ten exemplary IPEd teachers nationwide will be honored during the World Teachers’ Day celebration on October 5, 2026.

The Schools Division of Mabalacat City congratulates Mrs. Sison and wishes her success in the national competition, recognizing her dedication to quality and inclusive education.

SDO Mabalacat City takes part in Aquaponics Training

Schools Division Office of Mabalacat City participated in an Aquaponics Training sponsored by the Department of Agriculture–Regional Field Office III, through the City Agricultural Office of Mabalacat City Government Office. The training was held at the Farmers Training Center, Agri-Warehouse, Mawaque Malati, Mabalacat City on September 17, 2026.

Anchored on its advocacy of strengthening school-based gardening initiatives and promoting sustainable food production through modern farming methods, the activity was spearheaded by Engr. Remedios M. Donato, Acting City Agriculturist of Mabalacat City. The training also included a profiling activity for the invited Gulayan sa Paaralan Project (GPP) Coordinators. In support of the training, Medical Officer Dr. Richelle C. Puno and GPP focal person Nurse Mary Cyril P. Dela Cruz also participated in the activity.

The activity strengthens the collaboration and partnership between the education and agriculture sectors through provision of practical knowledge on aquaponics and sustainable food production.

SDO Mabalacat City participates in Q-BEDP Alignment Workshop

As the Department advances the implementation of the Quality Basic Education Development Plan (Q-BEDP) 2025-2035 and other strategic initiatives, select division personnel from DepEd Mabalacat City attended the Regional and Division Education Development Plan (REDP-DEDP) Alignment Workshop at Otel Pampanga in San Fernando City. The training covers a four-day workshop which started on September 14, 2026 and will conclude on September 17, 2026.

The workshop aims to deepen participants’ understanding of how to facilitate the alignment of REDP and DEDPs that are anchored on DepEd’s five-point reform agenda and strengthen SDOs in strategic planning. Representing SDO Mabalacat City are ASDS Dr. Armando C. Capili, SGOD Chief Dr. Jennifer Q. Cunanan, CID Chief Dr. Ericson P. Cabrera, EPSvr Dr. Abigay Amar, Planning Officer III Dr. Eduard DC Ramos, SEPS- HRD Agnes C. Cunanan, SEPS- SMME Allan Ornulfo D. Ocampo and Budget Officer Steve A. Valiao.

The ongoing workshop provides an opportunity for participants to review the SDOs’ existing plans and share best practices that are responsive to the needs of the learners, the schools, and the education community.

DepEd Mabalacat City promotes active lifestyles among learners

The Schools Division Office of Mabalacat City, through its School Health and Nutrition Unit led by Dr. Richelle C. Puno, conducted the “Matimbang na Plano, Para sa Ma-Timbang na Mag-aaral” program on September 4 and 7, 2026, at the Doña Asuncion Lee Integrated School Multimedia Room and the Learning Hub of Dau Elementary School.

The school-based intervention was spearheaded by Mary Cyril Dela Cruz, proponent of the program, with support from the Local Government Unit of Mabalacat City through the POPGAD–City Council for the Protection of Children (CCPC) Fund.

Pursuant to Republic Act No. 11148, or the Kalusugan at Nutrisyon ng Mag-Nanay Act, the program aimed to help teachers and school personnel provide supportive and age-appropriate activities that promote healthy eating habits, regular physical activity, and positive lifestyle choices. It particularly encouraged learners who are overweight or obese to engage in regular physical activities as part of efforts to improve their health and well-being.

The program also emphasized the important role of teachers, parents, and other stakeholders in supporting learners’ health, nutrition, and overall well-being.

Crafting and Quality Assurance of Performance-Based Learning Activity Sheets

Quality learning resources begin with a clear understanding of learners needs, curriculum competencies and the standards that guide their development. The Schools Division Office of Mabalacat City, through the Curriculum Implementation Division, conducted the Virtual Orientation on the Crafting and Quality Assurance of Performance-Based Learning Activity Sheets (LAS) on September 8, 2026, via Microsoft Teams.

The orientation brought together identified writers and evaluators who were guided on the development process, Performance-Based LAS template, language considerations, quality assurance standards, roles and responsibilities, expected outputs, and submission timelines.

The activity also highlighted the importance of collaboration and shared responsibility in producing learning resources that are accurate, contextualized, inclusive, learner-friendly, and aligned with the intended competencies. With every learning resource crafted, we move one step closer to providing our learners with meaningful opportunities to learn, perform, and grow.

PRC accredited seminars conducted in DepEd Mabalacat City

Over 1,000 elementary and secondary teachers participated in the NEAP-recognized and PRC-accredited trainings in different learning areas on September 10-11, 2026 in Mabalacat City schools, NEAP III, and Angeles University Foundation.

The training activities, spearheaded by the Curriculum Implementation Division, headed by CID Chief Dr. Ericson P. Cabrera and the Education Program Supervisors, and in collaboration with the SGOD HRD (SEPS Agnes Cunanan) and M& E (SEPS Allan Ocampo) units, took months to prepare for NEAP quality assurance and PRC accreditation. They cover pedagogy, content, strategy, and assessment designed to address the professional development needs of teachers.

SDS Dr. Maria Carmen P. Cuenco expressed her appreciation to the teacher-participants saying “The Division preparation took months and the fruition is here and now. But for you, dear Teachers, the preparation starts today and the fruition takes place when you go back to your respective classrooms.” She also recognized the efforts of the learning-area supervisors, resource speakers, school personnel, members of the technical working group and the program management team who helped make the training activities possible.

LEARNING FORWARD I Strengthens Assessment Literacy and Instructional Excellence in Key Stage 1

The Schools Division Office of Mabalacat City successfully conducted Learning Forward I: Strengthening Assessment Literacy and Instructional Excellence in Key Stage 1 on September 3, 2026, at Dau Elementary School.
The activity gathered five (5) Education Program Supervisors, ten (10) school heads serving as validators, and Grade 1 teachers to strengthen their understanding of assessment literacy, the implementation of the Descriptive Grading System (DGS), and effective instructional practices that support learner success.

In her inspirational message, Dr. Maria Carmen P. Cuenco, EdD, CESO V, Schools Division Superintendent, emphasized the importance of assessment in improving learning outcomes and ensuring that every learner receives the support needed to succeed.

A highlight of the activity was the session facilitated by Dr. Jennifer B. Ilagan, who shared practical insights on assessment literacy, grading practices, and instructional strategies for Key Stage 1. Participants also engaged in workshops and collaborative activities that enabled them to develop and refine assessment tools and instructional materials aligned with current standards.

The training concluded with a synthesis of key learnings, discussion of ways forward, and the awarding of certificates in recognition of the contributions and active participation of all involved.

As the first installment of the Learning Forward Series, the activity reaffirmed the Division's commitment to empowering educators and strengthening quality instruction and assessment for every learner.
