Nagpayong High School (NHS) honored its graduates as it held its 16th Commencement Exercises on March 31, 2026, at the Rizal High School Oval, with the theme โFilipino Graduate: Prepared to Lead with Competence and Character.โ
The graduation program started with the processional as the graduating students marched, as well as their parents, followed by the Parent-Teacher Association officers, NHS faculty club officers, teaching and non-teaching personnel, school administrators, Schools Division Office officials, city government officials, and guests. It was followed by the Entrance of Colors led by NHSโ senior scout, headed by Tommy L. Lutero.
NHSโ Principal, Monette P. Vega, proceeded to the presentation of Candidates for Graduation for S.Y. 2025โ2026, of whom 686 were male and 682 were female, including the graduates from Alternative Learning Systems, for a total of 1,368, and was certified and recommended by Dr. Edna D. Camarao, Public Schools District Supervisor, Cluster II. The students have satisfactorily completed all the requirements for Senior High School prescribed by the Department of Education under the Enhanced Basic Education Curriculum. Dr. Jay F. Macasieb, CESO VI, Assistant Schools Division Superintendent, led the Confirmation of Graduates on behalf of the Schools Division Superintendent, Romela M. Cruz, CESO V.
On the other hand, the distribution of certificates and diplomas was given by Mrs. Monette P. Vega; Mrs. Bernadette S. Agustin, Assistant Principal II; Dr. Jay F. Macasieb; and Dr. Edna D. Camarao, together with the Cluster II School Heads, city officials, and guests, with the assistance of the Subject Group Heads and Head Teachers.
The ceremony became even more meaningful as Mayor Victor Ma. Regis โVicoโ Sotto engaged the students with a thought-provoking question: โAlam niyo ba kung ano ang nakasulat sa inyong Sablay?โ As he explained, the symbols on the sablay are not just decorative; they carry a powerful message. When read together, they represent the identity and pride of the graduates. There is the logo of Nagpayong High School, followed by โPAGASAโ and the symbol of the City of Pasig, and the flowing wave design signifies movement and continuity. Altogether, the sablay tells a story: โAko ay graduate ng Nagpayong High School, at dahil sa akin umaagos ang PAGASA sa lungsod ng Pasig,โ Mayor Vico added. It is a reminder that every graduate carries the responsibility of bringing positive change and hope to the community.
Adding to the inspiration, Vice Mayor Roberto โDodotโ Jaworski Jr. encouraged the learners to continue pursuing education, emphasizing that it is a powerful tool to uplift oneself and achieve a better future.
Meanwhile, Congressman Roman Romulo highlighted the various laws and initiatives he has supported to benefit both teachers and students. He elaborated on efforts aimed at improving the quality of education, providing better support for educators, and creating more opportunities for learners. His message underscored the importance of strong policies in building a more inclusive and effective educational system.
The Academic Honors, which were led by Mrs. Bernadette S. Agustin and Mrs. Monette P. Vega, were awarded to a total of 23 students with Highest Honors, Academic Excellence, and Special Awards.
Roberto M. Fuentes Jr., the first-ranking learner, delivered his Words of Gratitude with a heartfelt and reflective message. He began his speech by quoting a line from Gwan-sik of "When Life Gives You Tangerines," Episode 12: โThere is nothing in the world as scary as the ocean. When the wind is fierce and I get scared, that tiny light from a fishing boat over there is what I look at. Thinking that the boat must feel lonely and scared, like me, makes it less scary. Fuentes shared a meaningful analogy, stating that life is much like the ocean: vast, deep, and filled with uncertainties. At times, it is calm and gentle, but there are also moments when strong waves crash unexpectedly. He reminded everyone that despite lifeโs challenges, we find comfort and strength in knowing that we are not alone in our journey.
Moreover, before the program ended, the graduates sang their graduation song titled โWe Made It Through.โ The graduates also took their Oath of Loyalty, commanded by Princess Shanelle Mallari, second-ranking learner, followed by the Exit of Colors before proceeding to the recessional.
