2017 when I was a newbie guide and I thought the hardest thing about guiding was getting my clients on fish. Boy, was I wrong...
Everything that has ever happened while I navigated my way through the guide game has only made me stronger. So, all of yall out there who had my back when I wasn't strong enough to stand on my own-- when I didn't feel confident in my guide game yet --I want to thank you. I couldn't have made it this far without y'all and I'll be forever grateful to the amazing, wonderful Texas fly fishing community for having my back. Yall are the best!!!
And, then for all those haters out there-- damn, guess I've just never rocked a boat before! So glad I did because now I can see those haters crystal clear now for who they really are. All their entitlement and privilege (aka, daddy bought me a boat so imma guide now), their insecure, inflated egos that drive them to tear down anyone who doesn't look like them or who refuses blow hot air up their ass.
Believe it or not those haters have also helped make me who I am today, so I want to give them a VERY special thanks too for showing me-- and everyone else not a part of their --by example how NOT to be and who to watch out for. Luckily, I learned that lesson and I'm not putting up with their kind anymore. Let's just say I grew a spine and I can, and will without hesitation, speak the truth about my experience as a women guide in a white, male dominated field.
Truth is those haters are actually a very small subgroup of guides who hide in plain sight within the greater community, some even posing as leaders. And, they are very afraid and threatened by people who are different than them so they try their best to discredit and destroy the changes happening in the outdoors community. It's a and a designed to give them the illusion of dominance. And if you don't fit the narrative, your "doing it wrong" aka, you don't belong here. Don't fall for it y'all. I almost did and it threatened to take me down. But, thankfully, I grew that spine and look at me now!!!
Another truth... The outdoors and fly fishing belongs to everyone!!! So get out there today π₯π₯π₯
