Sharing the joy of my reading journey with Kaia. From teaching her phonics at the age of 3, every word has truly become an adventure! 💖🔤

For parents:
1. Start early. The best time to start teaching your child to “read” is between the ages of 3 and 5.
2. Make it fun. Reading should be enjoyable for both you and your child. Choose books that your child is interested in and that are at their reading level.
3. Be patient. It takes time for children to learn to read. Don't get discouraged if your child doesn't seem to be getting it right away.
4. Be a role model. Show your child how much you enjoy reading by reading to them every day.
5. Encourage your child to practice. The more your child reads, the better they will become at it.

With patience and persistence, you can help your child learn to read and love reading!

My sister, Lyn, recorded this story to teach Katniss and Kate consistency as a character trait. It’s important that our kids learn to keep trying and keep showing up.

One-to-one correspondence is a basic Math skill where the child is able to count an actual number of objects in a set. A child who understands one-to-one correspondence knows that 2 cookies is equal to 2.

Indicator of Progress: While some children can recite the number sequence through rote memory, the success of this skill shows when your child can coordinate saying the number names while taking or touching the counters one by one. Thus, counting the number of objects in a set accurately.

Angel Face

This is one of the many stories I love to tell Katniss, Kate, and Kaia! The descriptive language and vocabulary words used together with the richly colored illustrations make it a beautiful piece!

After reading, the girls would comment: “I’m about to cry.”

I learned about this story from Teacher Michelle when I was still her assistant teacher. Extremely grateful for having learned so much from her.

If you have a preschooler, have him or her learn the phonics letter sounds which is far more important than having them memorize the letter names.
