Last April 28-30, UA&P faculty Ms. Paula Hamoy and Dr. Celine Socrates presented their papers at the International Conference of the Philippine Political Science Association (PPSA) with the theme "Democracy: Navigating the Tensions of Unity and Division". Ms. Hamoy's paper, entitled "Pulling strings: the political economy of non-visible power", explores the role and impact of non-visible power such as media framing and public perception in shaping political events in the country. Dr. Socrates, on the other hand, presented a paper entitled "Arendt's banality of evil in systemic corruption: the Discaya interviews", analysing the important role of critical thinking in the moral formation of political actors, particularly in the context of systemic corruption.
The PPSA Conference is an international conference that gathers hundreds of scholars all over the world who specialize in the study of Philippine politics. This year, it was held at Silliman University, Dumaguete City.
