One could not fully express the honor and gratitude after hearing from a distinguished physician such as Dr Deo Reyes who imparted to us not only the history and function of CASSTI but also bits of his life as a surgeon. Tough Cases which was organized by Think Tank in partnership with Surgical Society of Ateneo was both informative and inspirational. Informative because the students were able to learn and try the various models which were available in the said facility. Inspirational because Dr Deo did not only try to fuel the students' motivation to further pursue being a surgeon, but also he ignited the hope that the future of the Philippine healthcare is still bright and factors such as facilities (like CASSTI) and future physicians (like the students of ASMPH) will play a big role in reaching that. So once again, we would like to thank Dr Deo for the opportunity and we hope for more.

Synapse: Connecting Research with Medicine is a forum for all medical doctors, healthcare experts and medical students to engage in conversation about the exciting and cutting-edge medical research that is currently being undertaken here in the Philippines. The forum will feature prominent and upcoming medical doctors who are actively involved in scientific research applicable to various health fields. It is our desire to give due recognition to the significant contributions being accomplished by our own Filipino physicians, and to share their passion and vigor for research to a broader audience consisting of fellow doctors, residents, and medical students.

Health professionals need to step outside and go beyond their traditional roles as clinicians if they want to improve the health of a nation. Easier said than done.
But while it certainly is daunting to choose the path less trodden, Pioneers of ASMPH have done so and have paved the way for future doctor-leaders. Among them is Dr. Raymonde Uy, MD-MBA (from the 1st batch) who is currently a postdoctoral fellow for medical informatics in US NIH-NLM.
FormSem2 is a talk regarding the Future of Medicine, in which health informatics plays a big part. Dr. Uy, the guest speaker, was invited to give the talk for this event. It was held in Chung Te Auditorium and was aptly facilitated by the use of Google hang-out.

Research is collaboration. It is working with other people, both in the past and the future, to create meaningful change.
But this does not often happen when it comes to school research papers. Work done by previous batches is often discarded as the researchers become preoccupied by other endeavors. And succeeding batches, rather than advancing, often end up repeating the same work.
With the help of the school, ThinkTank spent its first year developing a solution for this problem. We are proud to present Project A.R.I.E.S. (ASMPH Research Information Engagement System), where research done by previous batches can be seen by and improved upon by succeeding ones. By creating linkages, parties can share resources and learn from one another. We hope to strengthen the relevance of public health research -moving past simply being school requirements to becoming cornerstones in advancing health care.
