They also toured the campus facilities to get a sneak peek at what it’s really like to train as a future Tytana Nurse.

May 8 is World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day, honoring the birthday of Henry Dunant, the founder of the Red Cross movement and first Nobel Peace Prize winner.

This year's theme is "United in Humanity," reminding us that compassion must turn into real action during times of crisis. The Red Cross and Red Crescent operates in nearly every country, providing emergency response, blood donations, first aid training, and support during disasters and conflicts.

Guided by seven principles, they help based on need alone.

Let's celebrate the volunteers who risk so much to help others. And let's remember that even small acts of kindness can make a big difference.

World Asthma Day reminds us that asthma affects around 260 million people worldwide, including many children and young adults in the Philippines.

Common triggers like air pollution, dust, smoke, and sudden weather changes can cause shortness of breath, wheezing, and chest tightness. In severe cases, asthma attacks can be life-threatening.

There is no cure yet, but asthma is manageable with inhalers, medication, and avoiding triggers. The real problem is lack of awareness and access to proper care.

Let's educate ourselves, support those with asthma, and work toward cleaner air and better treatment for all.

As April comes to a close, we mark the end of Sexual Assault Awareness Month. But the conversation does not end here.

Sexual violence affects millions worldwide. Globally, 1 in every 5 women and 1 in every 7 men have experienced sexual violence in childhood alone. Yet many cases go unreported due to fear, shame, and victim-blaming.

This month reminds us to listen without judgment, support survivors, and practice consent and respect in our daily lives. Wearing teal may be a simple act, but awareness and action go much deeper.

To every survivor: your experience is valid. You are not alone. And your voice matters.

Let's continue to break the silence, end the stigma, and build safer communities for everyone.
