As I was scanning photograph prints, I came across prints of digital photos which I lost because ants decided to camp out in my hard disk. Years later, I almost underwent the same experience when I accidentally repartitioned the hard disk where my photos (and videos) were stored.
The important lesson I learned from this, have an off-site backup pf your files.

Multi-camera workflow:
1. Before a shoot, make sure to charge all camera and flash batteries, main and backup.
2. Clear space in your memory cards. Memory cards are not bullet proof so bring extra for very important shoots.
3. Synchronize each camera's clock. You can use gphoto2 for this task.
4. Be on the shoot early whether a paying or non-paying gig.
5. Shoot away.
6. You don't want anybody blocking your shot so please try not to block somebody else's shot.
7. Download photos from the memory card(s) as soon as possible.
8. You can use jhead to automatically rotate and rename files based on shooting date and time. This step makes sure that you can combine shots from one or more cameras based on date/time taken.
9. Make backups: HDD, DVD, Flickr.
