Unsung Heroes Safeguard Balik-Kasaysayan Festival

BSP Outfit 280 quietly emerged as the unsung heroes during the Balik-Kasaysayan Festival (Urduja Cluster) on August 25, 2025, at Don Ramon E. Costales Memorial National High School (DRECMNHS).

Throughout the day, student and teacher participants from the 5th Congressional District, which includes the municipalities of Villasis, Rosales, Alcala, and Bautista showcased their talents and creativity in Kuwentong Kasaysayan at Kultura (K*K) Booth-Making Contest, MusikaBayan, and MakabanSayaw, highlighting the rich history, culture, and artistry of the participating towns and schools.

Tasked as the official emergency response team, Outfit 280 displayed chivalry and readiness by attending minor incidents like dizziness, muscle cramps, sprain, and fainting due to fatigue and excitement during the MakabanSayaw (Contemporary Dance) competition. With the swift support of the SHS medic team and the school nurse, no major casualties were reported throughout the celebration.

The emergency response efforts were supervised by the Outfit Advisers Sir Reynaldo P. Olidan, Sir Cliford C. Novela, and Sir Bryan M. Mendez, under the guidance of SHS Assistant Principal Ma’am Maribeth S. Tugare and School Principal Sir Ferdinand T. Austria.

As the nation marks National Heroes Day today, the efforts of BSP Outfit 280 serve as a reminder that heroism is not only found in the pages of history but also in the quiet service of those who safeguard their schools and communities. Their selfless acts echo the legacy of our heroes proving that even in simple ways, one can stand as a modern-day hero.

"We learn the rope of life by untying its knots." -Jean Toomer

To strengthen the scouts' knot-tying abilities, Outfit 280 led a rope work lesson.

The ability to tie knots is an extremely practical skill. Even lives can be saved by knowing the proper knots to employ. The focus of this specific session was on teaching and practicing knot tying in order to ensure that the scouts can use their talents when necessary.

The DRECMNHS Outfit 280 actively supports the Urban Agriculture Program of BSP. It aims to teach the scouts to promote SDG #10 (Zero Hunger) and SDG #3 (Good Health and Well-being) through sustainable gardening and to ensure the availability and accessibility of safe fresh vegetables in school and in urban areas.
