It may be tiny, but don’t let the size fool you! 🦟👀 Today, we observe World Mosquito Day, reminding us of just how much impact these little insects can have on both animal and human health.

From annoying bites to transmitting serious diseases, mosquitoes are more than just that “bzzzz” we hear at night. 😭🦟 As future veterinarians, understanding their role as vectors is an important part of protecting our animals, our communities, and ourselves. 🩺🐾🌎

Our pets do so much to rescue us from a bad day, but they can’t rescue themselves from an emergency. This 𝑵𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒂𝒍 𝑷𝒆𝒕 𝑭𝒊𝒓𝒆 𝑺𝒂𝒇𝒆𝒕𝒚 𝑫𝒂𝒚, let’s show our fur babies some extra love by ensuring they are fully included in our household emergency plans.

We can easily protect our best friends by using stove k**b covers, keeping open flames out of reach, and placing a pet alert decal on a front window so firefighters know exactly who to look for. Take five minutes today to check your smoke alarms, practice your escape route, and make sure your pet’s collar and leash are always easily accessible near the door, because keeping our loyal companions safe is the best way to return the unconditional love they give us every day. 🐾🧯❤️
