Satellite tags are often seen as a useful tool for studying whales because the marine mammals spend most of their time under water but at what cost to the animal?

Scientists are concerned about a grey whale that has developed skin lesions months after it was darted with a satellite tag and veterinarians recently darted the marine mammal with antibiotics to prevent a systemic infection.
