๐๐ฎ๐๐ ๐ ๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ฐ๐ต ๐ญ๐ฌ, ๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ฎ๐ฒ, The Local Youth Development Office (LYDO) of Palompon hosted an educational tour in Palompon, Leyte, called โLakbay-Aral: Kasaysayan at Kultura ng Palompon,โ with the permission of the school head and the parents of selected students from Alfredo Parilla National High School, Grades 7โ12. The tour was successful and filled with fun learning experiences, allowing the students to discover new knowledge while enjoying the trip.
The tour aimed to educate the youth about the historical background of our hometown, Palompon, focusing on its origins, key events, and growth through the years. The students learned why Palompon was formerly called โHinablayanโ and โPaumpong,โ and how it eventually got its present name. They also explored the story behind the famous ceiling painting of St. Francis Xavier Parish Church, including how it was painted and when the church was built. After each station or route, the LYDO coordinator gave the students a postcard as a souvenir. The postcards contained information and hints related to each station, which helped the students answer the questions when the Q&A session began, giving them a chance to win prizes.
In addition, the students visited Freedom Park, where they learned the significance of the monuments and how these honor important events and individuals in the townโs history. They also discovered the oldest tree in Palompon and its importance as part of the townโs natural heritage. Furthermore, the students gained knowledge about why our school is named Alfredo Parilla National High School. Our school was named after former Palompon mayor Alfredo Parilla Sr., whose leadership led to the establishment of a secondary school in Barangay San Miguel, Palompon, Leyte. This made education more accessible to students living far from the town proper. In honor of his legacy, our school was named Alfredo Parilla National High School instead of being named after its barangay, and it was officially opened in 1995.
During the tour, the students also learned about an interesting historical discovery in the town: while digging at a residentโs house in Palompon, an object thought to be just metal was found to be an unexploded bomb dating back to World War I. This discovery reminded the students of Palomponโs connection to history and the importance of preserving and learning from the past.
The tour also introduced the students to the famous tourist spots in Palompon and taught them the proper doโs and donโts when visiting these places. Overall, the experience was both educational and enjoyable, helping the students appreciate the rich culture, history, and identity of our hometown. In order to remember the past and honor those who shaped our town, we must teach the younger generations about the history, culture, and traditions of our hometown. By passing on these stories and experiences, we keep the spirit and legacy of our people alive, inspiring pride, responsibility, and a deep love for our hometown, while empowering the youth to protect, celebrate, and contribute to its bright future.
We would like to sincerely thank the LGU and the LYDO of Palompon for organizing โLakbay-Aral: Kasaysayan at Kultura ng Palomponโ and giving the students the opportunity to learn, explore, and gain valuable knowledge about our hometown.
