The University Student Government Student Senate successfully conducted its 3rd Regular Session and 1st Department-Based Senate Session today, September 25, 2026, at the BA Political Science Department.
The session was presided over by Vice President Chris Venjie G. Pascua.

The session formally marked the commencement of the Department-Based Senate Sessions, an initiative of the USG Student Senate aimed at bringing the legislative process closer to students by holding Senate sessions in different academic departments.
Through this initiative, students may attend as spectators and observe actual Senate proceedings, giving them a better understanding of how student legislation is discussed and deliberated.
Spectators are also given a designated opportunity to speak, where they may raise concerns, express their views, or request an opinion from the University Student Government. Concerns raised may be referred to the appropriate Senate committee for proper consideration.
However, spectators are not part of the Senate deliberations and shall not participate in the discussion or decision-making on legislative matters. They are expected to maintain proper silence and decorum while deliberations are ongoing.
The initiative seeks to make the USG Student Senate more accessible and visible to the student body by bringing its proceedings directly to different academic departments.
During the session, Mr. Ryan Somera, BAPS Councilor and a spectator from the BAPS Department, expressed his support for the initiative and its goal of bringing the USG Student Senate closer to students.

The Senate heard privilege speeches from:
โข Sen. Paulo Benjamin Gapuz โ on the proposed amendment of the USG Constitution;
โข Sen. Dane Agbisit โ on the proposed budget of the Legislative Department and the proposed allocation and utilization of its funds;
โข Sen. Jean G. Maylanon โ on the continuing improvements in waste segregation; and
โข Vice President Chris Venjie G. Pascua โ on the institutionalization of Department-Based Senate Sessions.

The Senate discussed several important matters concerning the USG Student Senate and the broader legislative process.
Among the matters discussed was the proposed amendment of the 2023 USG Constitution, which was taken up following the privilege speech of Sen. Paulo Benjamin Gapuz.
The Senate also deliberated on the proposed budget of the Legislative Department, including the proposed allocation and utilization of its funds, as presented by Floor Leader Dane Agbisit.
The proposed new Legislative Calendar was likewise discussed, together with other matters concerning the organization, operations, and development of the legislative branch.
The discussions were conducted through proper deliberation among the members of the Senate, allowing the body to examine the proposals and consider their implications for the Student Government.
The USG Student Senate remains committed to transparency, accountability, meaningful deliberation, and responsive student legislation.
