Strengthen collaboration with the Ormoc City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) and Field Instruction partners. 🤝💙

The City College of Ormoc – College of Arts and Sciences, Social Work Department successfully conducted the Training on the Generalist Approach in Social Work and Effective Field Instruction Supervision for Agency Field Supervisors on September 16, 2026, at the CSWD Conference Room, New Ormoc City Hall, Brgy. Cogon, Ormoc City, Leyte.

Anchored on the theme “Strengthening Collaboration with the Ormoc City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) and Field Instruction Partners,” the activity brought together social work educators and agency field supervisors to deepen collaboration and strengthen the supervision and learning experiences of Social Work students in their field placements.

The training featured sessions on the Generalist Approach in Social Work, facilitated by Prof. Amelyn L. Laro, RSW, MASW, and Effective Field Instruction Supervision for Agency Field Supervisors, facilitated by Dr. Sandra Lynn A. Baybay, PhD.

The activity also highlighted the valuable partnership between CCO Social Work Department, CSWDO, and its Field Instruction partner agencies in preparing competent, ethical, and practice-ready future social workers.

We extend our sincere appreciation to Ms. Maribel V. Gucela, RSW, CSWD Head, our resource speakers, agency field supervisors, and all partners who contributed to the success of this meaningful activity.

𝐈𝐍 𝐏𝐇𝐎𝐓𝐎: The Local Government Unit of Alangalang warmly welcomed Jenny Marx M. Apit, Vice President for Student Affairs and Services/BSSW Faculty Adviser; Dr. Sandra Lynn A. Baybay, Vice President for Academic Affairs; Domingo A. Salubre Jr., Field Instruction Coordinator; and Social Work student-interns from the City College of Ormoc, who paid a courtesy visit to Mayor Lovely Yu-Castro, yesterday at the Office of the Municipal Mayor.

The student-interns are currently undergoing their field internship at the LGU Alangalang, gaining valuable hands-on experience in community-based social work and public service.

Also present during the courtesy visit was Bahay Pag-asa Coordinator Lizer Peralta, RSW, who continues to support the student-interns in their field exposure and activities.

🎉 A MILESTONE WORTH CELEBRATING!🎉

Congratulations to Amelyn L. Laro, RSW, MASW, Assistant Professor IV of the City College of Ormoc and PhD Candidate in Development Administration, for being selected as ONE OF SIX RESEARCH FELLOWS FROM SOUTHEAST ASIA** for the SEACAF Research Fellowships on Empowering Academic Freedom 2026! 🌏🕊️

Her 12-month research fellowship will focus on:

📚 “A Participatory Multi-stakeholder Study of University Leaders, Faculty and Student Groups in the Philippines, Indonesia and Thailand”

under Theme 2: Developing Regional Indicators for Academic Freedom.

This highly competitive fellowship provides an important opportunity for Laro to contribute to a regional understanding of academic freedom by examining the perspectives and experiences of university leaders, faculty members, and student groups across three Southeast Asian countries.

Her research reflects her continuing commitment to advancing higher education research, social development, gender-responsive education, institutional transformation, and academic freedom.

Through this fellowship, she will contribute to strengthening regional conversations on:

🔹 Academic freedom and institutional responsibility
🔹 Inclusive and participatory higher education
🔹 Faculty and student voices in academic governance
🔹 Regional cooperation among Southeast Asian universities
🔹 Evidence-informed policies and indicators for protecting academic freedom

The fellowship also provides a platform for strengthening research collaboration among the Philippines, Indonesia, and Thailand, contributing to a stronger regional academic community.

The City College of Ormoc – Bachelor of Science in Social Work Program officially deployed another batch of Fourth Year Social Work interns to partner agencies as part of their Field Instruction I, marking another significant milestone in their journey toward becoming competent, ethical, and compassionate social work professionals.

The College of Arts and Sciences proudly congratulates our CASmates for securing 2nd place in the NUTRI-QUEST 2026 held in Ormoc City Public Library, Room 3, July 22.

Out of eight participating teams from various academic programs, the CAS team composed of 𝗝𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗲 𝗢𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗹 𝗠𝗮𝗴𝗻𝗼, 𝗔𝘀𝗵𝗹𝗲𝘆 𝗨𝘆, and 𝗡𝗶ñ𝗮 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗲 𝗥𝗼𝘀𝗮𝗰𝗲ñ𝗮 showcased outstanding knowledge, teamwork, and determination throughout the competition, earning a well-deserved second place finished.
