FREESTYLE SELF DEFENSE Ormoc City Chapter
First Training of August at Our Upgraded Home!
We kicked off our first training session for the month of August at the newly renovated training area inside the Ormoc City Sports Complex! The improved facilities give our practitioners and martial artists the perfect environment to train harder, sharpen their skills, and reach new heights.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude and warmest appreciation to the leaders and individuals who made this possible:
✨ Hon. Mayor Lucy Torres - Gomez & Congressman Richard Gomez – Thank you for your unwavering vision, leadership, and continuous support for the sports community in Ormoc City.
✨ City Government of Ormoc – Thank you for investing in sports development and giving local martial artists quality facilities to train in.
✨ Sir Rafael Antonio M. Munoz & the Ormoc City Sports Commission – Thank you for your tireless dedication to empowering athletes and sports organizations across the city.
✨ Grandmaster Emil Cuevas of Arnis De Caballes – Thank you for your generosity in allowing the Freestyle Self-Defense Ormoc City Chapter to train in your dedicated space.
Together, we continue to grow stronger and represent Ormoc with pride! Onward and upward! 💪🔥

A Tribute to Our Brother, Shihan Ariel Basiga
Today, you were laid to rest under the skies of General Santos City, but we know your spirit is already training in a higher realm.
You were more than a friend to us; you were a brother in arms to our entire chapter. The discipline, the sweat, and the unspoken bond we all shared on the mats are things that can never be replaced.
The Freestyle Self-Defense Ormoc City Chapter family will carry your legacy forward. We will be forever grateful for your sacrifice, your loyalty, and the fire you brought to every single session. Rest easy, warrior brother.
As the sun sets over General Santos City today, we send our collective earthly goodbyes from Ormoc. The Freestyle Self-Defense family will never forget the lessons you taught us—not just in technique, but in humility and courage.
Rest in Power, Brother Aying.
We are forever grateful for the time we shared with you. You will always be a part of our story.

The End of an Era
Today, the Freestyle Self Defense Organization honors the life and legacy of Shihan Ariel Basiga , who passed away on July 8, 2026.
As a founding member and 5th-degree Black Belt, Shihan Ariel was the heart of our system. He was a master of the craft, dedicated to creating a self-defense system that was accessible and effective. His work in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia—specifically in the Eastern Province from 2002 to 2008—was foundational. He navigated the complexities of international accreditation with grace, ensuring FSSD was recognized by the Philippine Consulate and the Saudi Government.
Beyond the belts and titles, he was a mentor who cared deeply for the growth of every student.
Rest in peace, Shihan Ariel. We will carry your torch forward.
