Pagbati sa ika-80 na kaarawan ni Manlilikha ng Bayan Alonzo Saclag!
Alonzo Saclag
Musician and Dancer
Kalinga
Lubuagan, Kalinga
Alonzo Saclag is a Kalinga master of dance and the performing arts, he has made it his mission to create and nurture a greater consciousness and appreciation of Kalinga culture, among the Kalinga themselves and beyond their borders. As a young boy in Lubugan, Alonzo Saclag found endless fascination in the sights and sounds of day-to-day village life and ritual. According to his son, he received no instructions, formal or otherwise, in the performing arts. Yet he mastered not only the Kalinga musical instruments but also the dance patterns and movements associated with his peopleâs rituals.
To guarantee that his knowledge in the performing arts is passed on to others, he formed the Kalinga Budong Dance Troupe. He takes the young men and women who come to him under his charge and they learn about the music and dance of their ancestors. While many expressed genuine desire to represent and promote Kalinga performing arts, he admits that a handful have other, more personal motives. Because the troupe occasionally goes on tour, joining it is perceived by some as a chance to see places other than the mountains they call home.

Pagbati sa ika-95 na kaarawan ni Manlilikha ng Bayan Lang Dulay!
Lang Dulay ±
Textile Weaver
Tâboli
Lake Sebu, South Cotabato
The Tânalak is the traditional sacred cloth of the Tâboli made from superior quality abaca especially grown for this purpose. Lang Dulay produced creations that remained faithful to the Tâboli tradition as manifested in the complexity of her designs reflecting the workings of ethnic memory, quality of workmanship and excellence of finish. The complex demands of the tie-dye technique in weaving designs required from her an instinctive mathematical mind.
Using abaca fibers as fine as hair, Lang Dulay spoke more eloquently than words could. Images from the distant past of her people, the Tâboli, were recreated by her nimble hands - the crocodiles, butterflies, and flowers., along with the mountains and streams of Lake Sebu, where she and her ancestors were born, filled the fabrics with their longing to be remembered. Lang Dulay did everything to keep her peopleâs tradition alive.

Remembering the life and works of National Artist for Literature Nicomedes âNickâ M. Joaquin on his 18th death anniversary.
Popularly known as âNickâ, he enriched the English language leading critics to coin the term âJoaquinesqueâ to describe his baroque Spanish flavored English of his reinventions of English based on Filipinism.
Bienvenido Lumbera wrote that Joaquinâs significance in the Philippine literature involves his exploration of the Philippine colonial past under Spain and his probing into the psychology of social changes. Among his works are âThe Woman who has Two Navelsâ, âA Portrait of the Artist as Filipinoâ, âManila, My Manila: A History for the Youngâ, âThe Ballad of the Five Battlesâ, âRizal in Sagaâ, âAlmanac for Manilenosâ, and âCave and Shadowsâ.
