UNICEF extends its heartfelt condolences and sympathies to the families whose children were killed or wounded from the recent violence in schools as the Philippines opened the new school year this month.
These tragic events have caused fear and distress among learners, teachers, parents and communities, underscoring the urgent need to ensure that schools remain safe, protective, and supportive spaces for every child.
Violence has no place in schools. The involvement of minors, as both victims and alleged perpetrators, further underscores the urgent need for strengthened prevention of violence and protection, and mental health support systems for children.
When violence enters classrooms and school grounds as well as its surroundings, it shatters not only young lives but also the trust of families and communities in the very institutions meant to protect and empower children.
UNICEF is closely monitoring the situation and continues to work with partners and institutions to strengthen school safety, including safeguarding protocols, psychosocial support, and the early identification of risks such as bullying and addressing the root causes of violence through stronger child protection systems.
We join partners in calling for respect for the dignity and privacy of all children involved and for a thorough, child-sensitive response. No child should ever fear for their life in and around schools.

Thank you, Ms. Rave Shea Morino, RPsy, RPmโจ
We would like to extend our heartfelt appreciation to Ms. Rave Shea Morino, RPsy, RPm, for serving as our resource speaker during the Basic Facilitating Skills Training for the new members of the Peer Facilitators Group.
Ms. Morino is a Registered Psychologist and Registered Psychometrician currently serving as Psychologist II at the Department of Psychiatry, Bicol Medical Center. Through her expertise, engaging discussions, and practical insights, she provided our peer facilitators with valuable knowledge and essential skills that will help them become more effective student leaders, peer helpers, and advocates of student well-being.
The Peer Facilitators Group is a volunteer program of the College Guidance Office of Universidad de Sta. Isabel, established to support the institution's Comprehensive and Developmental Guidance Program. As an extension of the Guidance Counseling and Testing Center, the program empowers student volunteers to assist in promoting students' holistic development and ensuring the effective delivery of guidance services and activities.
This training served as an important step in empowering our student volunteers to become competent and compassionate peer facilitators. It also reflects the growing impact of the program, which recently became the focus of a benchmarking activity participated in by Baao Community College and Camarines Norte State College. The visit provided an opportunity to showcase the best practices of the Peer Facilitators Group and foster collaboration among institutions committed to strengthening student support services, leadership development, and mental health advocacy.
Thank you, Ms. Morino, for generously sharing your time, expertise, and passion for helping others. Your contribution has inspired and equipped our new peer facilitators to serve the student community with greater confidence, empathy, competence, and dedication.
