Snuck in one last camping trip 🏕️

03/09/2026

I’ve been hiking in Colorado weekly for the better part of the last 15 years and I have never heard anything like this before this year and this is actually the second time I’ve heard it this year.
The Wolf map does not show wolves in this area and the high-pitched nature of the vocalizations do make me think coyotes.
While I’ve never heard coyotes like this in the middle of the day before, coyotes have never had to exist with wolves here until the last couple of years. So let me know what you think. What do you hear?

The way I need them to walk slowly on the downhill to save my knees 😅

I really do my best to follow posted leash laws but when we are in areas where no one else is around and I know I can recall if someone does show up, I really like to give my dogs more freedom.

I know that people mean well, but I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had my dogs pulled over and people let their dogs approach. Please don’t do that! If I see people pulled off with their dogs I keep my dogs engaged with me and I keep moving! These narrow trails can be difficult so please let’s set everybody’s dogs up for better success.
