Thank you for joining us as we opened this year's 𝐑𝐨𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐤 𝐇𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐌𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐋𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞𝐬 with 𝐃𝐫. 𝐅𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐝𝐚𝐝 𝐀. 𝐏𝐫𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐞 last March 15, 2025.
In 𝑴𝒂𝒓𝒄𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑬𝒎𝒑𝒊𝒓𝒆: 𝑴𝒊𝒍𝒊𝒕𝒂𝒓𝒚 𝑴𝒖𝒔𝒊𝒄 𝒊𝒏 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑷𝒉𝒊𝒍𝒊𝒑𝒑𝒊𝒏𝒆𝒔 𝑼𝒏𝒅𝒆𝒓 𝑱𝒂𝒑𝒂𝒏𝒆𝒔𝒆 𝑹𝒖𝒍𝒆, Dr. Prudente traced the evolution of gunka and explored the role of military music in shaping national identity and propaganda during the Japanese occupation of the Philippines (1942–1945). It was accompanied by a music performance by guest artist, 𝐈𝐦𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐮𝐞𝐥 𝐅𝐥𝐨𝐲𝐝 𝐋𝐢𝐦.

The 𝐑𝐨𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐤 𝐇𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐌𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐋𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞𝐬 commemorate FHL's longtime patron, Mr. Roderick Hall, who built a substantial collection of books and materials on World War II in the Philippines. Each talk in the lecture series promotes a uniquely Filipino experience of World War II and how the legacy of the war continues to be felt in present times.
