As part of the School-Based In-Service Training (INSET) and in support of the Department of Education’s commitment to continuous professional development, the teachers of Latangan Elementary School participated in the three-day webinar series entitled “ILAW in Action: Design and Deliver Effective Lessons through Explicit Instruction.” The activity was conducted on September 10–12, 2026.
Day 1 – September 10, 2026
On the first day, the teachers of Latangan Elementary School gathered together at the school to participate in the webinar through a live online session. The participants collectively watched and listened to the discussions and presentations, allowing them to share ideas and insights throughout the session.
The morning sessions focused on Understanding the ILAW Framework and Its Role in Effective Teaching and Using Explicit Instruction within the ILAW Lesson Planning Framework. The teachers gained a deeper understanding of the ILAW Framework—Intentions, Learning Experiences, Assessment, and Ways Forward—and how it can guide teachers in planning purposeful and effective lessons.
In the afternoon, the participants took part in a workshop on Designing Lessons Using the ILAW Framework and Explicit Instruction Principles. The session provided opportunities for the teachers to apply the concepts discussed and reflect on how explicit instruction can be incorporated into their daily classroom practices.
Day 2 – September 11, 2026
The teachers again gathered at Latangan Elementary School and participated together in the live webinar. The second day focused on Implementing Explicit Instruction through the “I Do, We Do, You Do” approach.
The teachers actively engaged with the discussion and learned how the gradual release of responsibility can help learners develop confidence, understanding, and independence. In the afternoon, they participated in a workshop on Preparing “I Do, We Do, You Do” Classroom Activities, where they collaboratively planned activities that could be adapted to their respective grade levels and learning areas.
The shared participation of the teachers during Days 1 and 2 fostered collaboration, professional learning, and exchange of ideas, making the sessions more meaningful and relevant to their classroom experiences.
Day 3 – September 12, 2026
On the third day, the teachers continued the training through work-from-home/home-based participation. They attended the scheduled online sessions individually from their respective homes while still actively engaging in the webinar activities.
The sessions focused on Managing Lesson Pacing and Maintaining Learner Engagement, Developing Effective Feedback Practices to Strengthen Teaching Practice, and a workshop on Refining Lesson Design and Delivery through Peer Feedback. The teachers were given opportunities to reflect on their instructional practices and identify ways to improve lesson delivery, learner engagement, and the use of meaningful feedback.
Conclusion
Overall, the participation of Latangan Elementary School in the three-day School-Based INSET was a valuable professional learning experience. Days 1 and 2 were conducted through a collective, face-to-face viewing and participation at Latangan Elementary School, which strengthened collaboration and camaraderie among the teachers. Meanwhile, Day 3 was accomplished through work-from-home/home-based participation, allowing the teachers to continue their professional learning while fulfilling the scheduled training activities.
The knowledge and strategies gained from the webinar will serve as valuable inputs in improving lesson planning, classroom instruction, learner engagement, assessment, and feedback practices. Through this initiative, the teachers of Latangan Elementary School reaffirm their commitment to continuous professional growth and the delivery of quality, effective, and learner-centered education.
