IN PHOTOS | Volunteers from Sunchon National University (SCNU), South Korea, conducted community service and cultural exchange activities for residents of Tahanan ng Damayang Kristiyano (TDK) at the St. John Paul II Sanctuary of the Divine Mercy on Aug. 11.

The volunteers prepared and served Filipino dishes, including adobo and caldereta, conducted a clean-up drive around the sanctuary, and helped repaint tables and chairs used by the residents.

They also introduced basic Korean words and expressions, taught the residents how to write their names in Hangeul, and assisted them in making personalized beaded bracelets. The interaction gave the volunteers an opportunity to practice Filipino words and conversational expressions.

Nursing interns from Good Samaritan Colleges were already conducting their internship at TDK when the SCNU delegation arrived. They assisted in facilitating the activities and the volunteers’ interactions with the residents.

The outreach at TDK was made possible through the International Affairs Office Team, Dr. Emil F. Ubaldo, Mr. Ariel Joseph J. Barza, Mr. Jerome O. Garcia, Mr. Almarc A. Marco, Dr. Lyan Mae Micah V. Dela Cruz, and Ms. Maria Theresa E. Salazar, alongside the assistance of Rev. Fr. Ricardo N. Pangilinan Jr., executive director of the St. John Paul II Sanctuary of the Divine Mercy.

IN PHOTOS | As part of the Philippine Overseas Volunteer Program at Central Luzon State University (CLSU), volunteers from Sunchon National University (SCNU), South Korea, took part in a series of cultural and institutional activities that strengthened their engagement with the CLSU community.

In celebration of ASEAN Month and the growing CLSU–SCNU friendship, the SCNU volunteers participated in a mural-painting activity in collaboration with the CLSU Cultural Affairs Office – Pigura Visual Arts Group. The activity brought Filipino and Korean participants together through visual art, creating a symbolic expression of friendship, cultural exchange, and international cooperation. The CLSU Pigura team was led by Engr. Laila Marie A. Lavandero.

The volunteers also underwent office immersion activities across selected academic and administrative units of the University, providing them with opportunities to learn about CLSU’s programs, operations, and areas of expertise while interacting with faculty members and personnel.

At the CLSU Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs, Park Hyunwoo, Kim Seojin, Kim Suyeon, and Jeong Jiyoon were welcomed by Dr. Ravelina R. Velasco, Vice President for Academic Affairs.

At the CLSU-College of Agriculture, Kim Geonhu, Lee Jaeeun, Ahn Nakyeong, and Im Huiseon participated in the immersion under the guidance of Acting Dean, Dr. Jayson Juan.

Meanwhile, Lee Jungwoo, Lee Chaeeun, Kim Jeongyoon, and Choi Chanung visited the CLSU-College of Fisheries, where they were welcomed by Acting Dean, Dr. Rea Mae C. Templonuevo and Mr. Junard C. Catabay.

At the International Affairs Office (IAO), Jeon Hyogeon, Oh Junmin, and Lee Hanna joined the office immersion with Dr. Emil F. Ubaldo, Chief of Mobility and Intercultural Exchange Division and the IAO team, gaining a closer look at the University’s internationalization initiatives and services.

The SCNU delegation likewise visited the King Sejong Institute – Muñoz, where they interacted with Teacher-Lecturer Ms. Suhyeon Kim and learned more about the Institute’s efforts to promote Korean language and culture within the CLSU community.

The activities formed part of SCNU’s visit to CLSU, highlighting not only volunteerism but also meaningful opportunities for cultural exchange, institutional learning, and people-to-people connections between the two universities.

IN PHOTOS | Eighteen volunteers from Sunchon National University (SCNU), South Korea, began their three-day engagement at Central Luzon State University (CLSU) on August 9, 2026, with environmental sustainability activities marking their first day at the University under the Philippine Overseas Volunteer Program.

Hosted by CLSU through its International Affairs Office (IAO), the SCNU delegation spent their opening day participating in waste sorting and segregation activities at the University’s Material Recovery Facility (MRF), followed by a learning tour at the Center for Climate Change and Environmental Management (CCCEM). The activities introduced the volunteers to CLSU’s initiatives on solid waste management, climate action, and environmental sustainability.

The first-day environmental engagement was conducted with the assistance of Dr. Gella Patria L. Abella, Director of CCCEM. Joining the volunteers were IAO personnel Dr. Emil F. Ubaldo, Chief of the Mobility and Intercultural Exchange Program Division; Mr. Jerome O. Garcia, Chief of the Events and Services Division; Ms. Maria Theresa E. Salazar, Social Media Manager; and Mr. Almarc A. Marco, Technical Staff.

Capping their first day at CLSU, the delegation was welcomed through a dinner attended by Dr. Ravelina R. Velasco, Vice President for Academic Affairs, and Ms. Kim Suhyeon, South Korean lecturer at the King Sejong Institute–Muñoz. The gathering formally welcomed the SCNU volunteers and provided an opportunity to strengthen connections ahead of their succeeding cultural, educational, and community-based activities.

On the following day, August 10, the SCNU delegation continued its official engagements at CLSU with a courtesy call on University President Dr. Evaristo A. Abella, further highlighting the institutional partnership and strengthening ties between CLSU and SCNU.

SHARE | CLSU Welcomes Korean Delegates for Philippine Overseas Volunteer Program

Central Luzon State University (CLSU), through its International Affairs Office (IAO), welcomed a delegation from Sunchon National University (SCNU), South Korea, from August 9 to 11, 2026, for the first phase of the Philippine Overseas Volunteer Program.

Composed of 15 students and three staff members, the delegation carried out a series of cultural, educational, and community-based activities during its three-day stay at the university.

As part of the official visit, the delegation paid a courtesy call on CLSU President Dr. Evaristo A. Abella on August 10. SCNU representatives Mr. Dominador Dizon Jr., Philippine Student Coordinator of the SCNU International Affairs Office, Mr. Kim Taewook, and Ms. Jeon Hyerin were joined by IAO personnel Dr. Emil F. Ubaldo, Chief of the Mobility and Intercultural Exchange Program Division; Mr. Jerome O. Garcia, Chief of the Events and Services Division; Mr. Ariel Joseph J. Barza, Technical Staff; and Ms. Maria Theresa E. Salazar, Social Media Manager.

During the engagement, the SCNU volunteers conducted a Korean cultural sharing class and participated in creating the CLSU–SCNU Friendship Art, with assistance from CLSU PIGURA. The mural, created to celebrate ASEAN Month, symbolizes the partnership, friendship, and cultural ties between CLSU and SCNU.

The delegation also extended its volunteer work to a partner community through a soup kitchen activity at Tahanan ng Damayang Kristiyano in San Jose City and took part in a community clean-up drive.

The three-day visit provided SCNU delegates and members of the CLSU community an opportunity to share cultural practices, performances, and experiences.

Through the program, CLSU and SCNU continue to strengthen institutional ties through international volunteerism, community engagement, and intercultural exchange.

Today, the CLSU International Affairs Office joins in celebrating the vibrant culture, progress, and unity of Singapore. This year, we proudly highlight one of our own—a CLSU student delegate Ms. Merielle Jade L. Cuesta who recently represented the Philippines at the Asian Undergraduate Symposium at the National University of Singapore.

From immersing in diverse cultures to collaborating on Project Metro Memo, a Community-driven digital archive preserving memories amidst urban transportation, her journey in Singapore reflects the spirit of learning, connection, and growth that transcends borders.
