📚 4th Year Implementation of the Math Mo, Gabay Ko: Basic Mathematics Enhancement Program (BMEP) 📚

As we wrap up the 4th year of the Math Mo, Gabay Ko: Basic Mathematics Enhancement Program (BMEP), we are filled with pride and gratitude for the progress made in enhancing the basic math skills of learners in our community. This year’s program, held from November 20 to December 11, 2025, has once again demonstrated the power of collaboration and dedication in making a positive impact.

The program has been a beacon of support for ALS Elementary and Junior High School learners, including senior citizens and individuals with special needs. The goal was clear: to improve their understanding and confidence in mathematics, a subject that often presents challenges but is essential in everyday life. With the support of the Math Department Community Extension Program, we were able to reach learners from various walks of life and backgrounds.

The closing program, held on December 11, 2025, at the MONCAST AVR in Monkayo, Davao de Oro, marked the culmination of a month-long effort. The assessment for the learners took place earlier that morning at the ALS Room, Monkayo Central Elementary School, where we saw the fruits of the participants’ hard work and the dedication of our volunteer educators.

This year’s program would not have been possible without the leadership and guidance of key individuals and organizations. Eric James C. Bermoy, the BSE Math Coordinator, spearheaded the efforts of the Math Department Instructors. Their tireless work ensured the smooth running of the program, while the Math Students Society Officers and Volunteer Student Teachers provided invaluable support to the learners throughout the entire duration. Their commitment to teaching and their passion for helping others truly shone through.

We are deeply grateful for the partnership of the ALS Implementers from both Monkayo Central Elementary School and Monkayo National High School—led by Rey C. Rota and Kristian Anhara L. Martesio—who played a crucial role in the program’s success. Their collaboration with the Community Extension of Math Department and guidance from Shirley Jean V. Sugano, the Public Schools District Supervisor, ensured that the program was tailored to meet the unique needs of all participants.

Finally, we were honored to have Kenneth Aga Sagarino, a representative from the Research, Development, and Extension Office, attend the closing program and celebrate the accomplishments of our learners and educators alike.

As we reflect on this year’s program, we are reminded of the power of education in bridging gaps, creating opportunities, and empowering individuals. The program continues to be a source of inspiration for all those involved, and we look forward to the continued success and growth of this initiative in the years to come.

The Department of Education (DepEd) Alternative Learning System (ALS) continues to strengthen its commitment to delivering inclusive, flexible, and community-responsive education, especially for out-of-school youth and adults seeking to obtain an elementary or secondary certificate through the Accreditation and Equivalency (A&E) Test. As Mathematics remains one of the key competency areas assessed in the A&E examination, it is crucial to provide targeted learning interventions that address common learning gaps and enhance test readiness both in Elementary and Junior High School.

In support of this mission, the activity “𝐌𝐚𝐭𝐡 𝐌𝐨, 𝐆𝐚𝐛𝐚𝐲 𝐊𝐨” is implemented as a collaborative review session designed to reinforce essential mathematical competencies among ALS learners. This initiative is undertaken in partnership with the Monkayo College of Arts, Sciences and Technology (MONCAST) through the Community Extension Program of the Bachelor of Secondary Education in Mathematics (BSE-Math). The collaboration aims to extend academic support to the community while providing BSED Mathematics students with meaningful opportunities to apply their pedagogical skills in real learning contexts.

The 4-day activity per level adopts a mentor-guided review approach, where ALS learners engage in guided discussions, problem-solving exercises, and simplified concept explanations facilitated by BSE-Math students. This strategy aligns with DepEd’s promotion of learner-centered and outcomes-based instruction, as well as ALS principles emphasizing empowerment, flexibility, and contextualized learning. Through this model, learners benefit from relatable explanations, individualized support, and exposure to practical strategies that enhance comprehension and retention.

The active participants include the learners of a senior age and with special needs.

ABS-CBN Foundation Programa Genio Explores Partnerships with ALS Monkayo and LGU Monkayo for Future Innovations

The ABS-CBN Foundation Programa Genio, led by Teacher Maricar Estole, visited the Alternative Learning System (ALS) at Monkayo Central Elementary School of Monkayo West District to strengthen collaboration and support for education initiatives in the locality.

The visit was graced by Noel Deplomo, President of Revoutika; Michael Angelo Castro, Program Officer of Programa Genio; Noemi Canales, Division ALS Focal; Eva Mundan, EPSA II; Eddie Jr Cabansag, EPSA II; Shirley Jean V. Sugano, Public Schools District Supervisor; Rey C. Rota, School Principal II; and ALS Teachers of the said school.

As part of their engagement, the team also paid a courtesy call to Hon. Manuel Zamora, Jr., Municipal Mayor of Monkayo. The discussion centered on possible collaborations, future projects, and innovative approaches to enhance education and community development, with the aim of providing sustainable opportunities for learners and residents of the municipality.

The partnership underscores the shared commitment of ABS-CBN Foundation Programa Genio, the Department of Education, and the Local Government of Monkayo to bring meaningful innovations that will empower learners and uplift communities.

Kulminasyon ng Buwan ng Wika 2025 sa Monkayo Central Elementary School

Ipinagdiwang ng Monkayo Central Elementary School ang Kulminasyon ng Buwan ng Wika 2025 na may temang “Paglinang sa Filipino at Katutubong Wika: Makasaysayan sa Pagkakaisa ng Bansa”. Ang nasabing pagdiriwang ay nilahukan ng ALS Elementary at ALS SNED Learners na buong siglang nakibahagi sa parada at programa.

Bilang pagpapakita ng pagmamahal sa sariling wika at kultura, nagsuot ang mga mag-aaral ng kani-kanilang pambansang kasuotan. Bukod sa parada, isinagawa rin ang iba’t ibang patimpalak tulad ng Pagbabaybay ng mga Salita sa Filipino at Pagbabaybay ng mga Wikang Senyas sa salitang Filipino.

Sa nasabing paligsahan, itinanghal na mga nagwagi sina Riza Olaso at Arvin Fulgueras sa Pagbabaybay ng mga Salita sa Filipino, samantalang si Ezra Jamia Ontal naman ang nagwagi sa Pagbabaybay ng Wikang Senyas. Ang lahat ng lumahok ay tumanggap ng sertipiko ng pagkilala bilang patunay ng kanilang aktibong pakikilahok.

Pinarangalan din ang mga nagsuot ng Magagandang Pambansang Kasuotan na sina Giselle Rato, Ezra Jamia Ontal, Niño Emanwell Dindin, Jhon Maurice Ramada at Manuel Rebosura.

Ang matagumpay na selebrasyon sa ALS ay pinangasiwaan ni Analou Maloloy-on, katuwang ang mga g**o sa ALS na binubuo nina Jumary Feb Mendoza, Mary Ann Buhia, Rosa Victoria Jumawan, at Chriszel Joy Agcol.

Pinangunahan naman ang kabuuang gawain ng butihing Punong-Guro na si Rey C. Rota at Tagapangasiwa ng Filipino ng paaralan na si Miles Chelwyn Galicia.

Ang Buwan ng Wika ay nagsisilbing paalala ng kahalagahan ng wikang Filipino at katutubong wika bilang matibay na haligi ng pagkakaisa ng sambayanang Pilipino.

The training was funded by Barangay Poblacion in collaboration with POBLASPED, MSWDO and CTE Office of LGU Monkayo.

It was fully supported by the Local Government Unit of Monkayo and the Monkayo Central Elementary School.

The training aims to give additional skills to people with special needs in Barangay Poblacion and earn a living through cooking and selling kakanin such as p**o, kutsina and sapin-sapin.

ALS Teachers of MCES were also present in the said activity. Their guidance contributed to the success of the training.

𝐌𝐨𝐧𝐤𝐚𝐲𝐨 𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐇𝐢𝐠𝐡 𝐒𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐥 𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐀𝐋𝐒 𝐉𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐨𝐫 𝐇𝐢𝐠𝐡 𝐒𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐥 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐒𝐘 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟓-𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔.

The class is managed by Ms. GLENDEL V. EDILLOR with the support of their school principal Kristian Anhara L. Martesio. Classess are conducted on Fridays.

This do not promote learners to DROP-OUT and TRANSFER to ALS. But this open opportunities to learners struggling on going to school everyday and financially incapacitated to go to regular classes.

Learners who are pregnant and are working qualify to enrol in the said program.
