𝘐𝘊𝘠𝘔𝘐: 𝘚𝘖𝘛𝘌𝘊𝘏 𝘫𝘰𝘪𝘯𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦 6𝘵𝘩 𝘐𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘯𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘢𝘭 𝘑𝘰𝘪𝘯𝘵 𝘚𝘺𝘮𝘱𝘰𝘴𝘪𝘶𝘮 2026

𝗞𝗮𝗿𝗹𝗮 𝗙𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗖. 𝗙𝗮𝗯𝗿𝗼𝘀, a UPV SOTECH BS Food Technology alumna, successfully delivered a research presentation at the 6th International Joint Symposium 2026, organized by the School of Agro-Industry, Mae Fah Luang University, Thailand, held on September 12, 2026.

Ms. Fabros presented her thesis, "𝗨𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘇𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗰𝗸𝗲𝗻 𝗘𝗴𝗴𝘀𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗹 𝗣𝗼𝘄𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝘀 𝗮 𝗖𝗮𝗹𝗰𝗶𝘂𝗺 𝗦𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗰𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗘𝗴𝗴 𝗡𝗼𝗼𝗱𝗹𝗲𝘀," a study exploring the use of eggshell by-products as a sustainable calcium source in food production. She competed against various school delegates from the ASEAN region.

Her research reflects a meaningful contribution to ongoing efforts in food innovation and sustainability. It also stands as a testament to her passion for research, innovation, and excellence that the School of Technology proudly upholds.

This work was carried out under the guidance of her adviser, 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐏𝐚𝐮𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐀. 𝐉𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞, 𝐏𝐅𝐓, with valuable input from panel members 𝐀𝐝𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐞 𝐅𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐳 𝐃. 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐚, 𝐏𝐅𝐓 and 𝐌𝐞𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐞 𝐍. 𝐌𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐣𝐚, 𝐏𝐅𝐓, throughout the thesis process.

The UPV BS Food Technology Program proudly celebrates another milestone in innovation as the 𝗚𝘂𝗶𝗹𝘁-𝗳𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝗚𝘂𝗺𝗺𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗞𝗮𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘀 𝗜𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗽𝗵𝗶𝗰 has been officially granted a 𝑻𝒓𝒂𝒏𝒔𝒇𝒆𝒓 𝑪𝒆𝒓𝒕𝒊𝒇𝒊𝒄𝒂𝒕𝒆 𝒐𝒇 𝑪𝒐𝒑𝒚𝒓𝒊𝒈𝒉𝒕 𝑹𝒆𝒈𝒊𝒔𝒕𝒓𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 by the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL).

Developed by 𝗔𝘀𝘀𝗼𝗰. 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗳. 𝗝𝗶𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝗦𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗮 𝗦. 𝗔𝗹𝘂𝗺𝗯𝗿𝗼 of the BS Food Technology and MS Food Science Programs together with 𝗠𝘀. 𝗝𝗼𝘆𝗰𝗲 𝗔𝗹𝗺𝗲𝗿 𝗥. 𝗔𝗿𝗿𝗶𝗯𝗮𝗹, BS Food Technology graduate, the copyrighted infographic highlights the development of guilt-free gummies made from kamatis (tomato), showcasing the application of food science and technology in developing innovative food products.

The 𝘽𝙖𝙘𝙝𝙚𝙡𝙤𝙧 𝙤𝙛 𝙎𝙘𝙞𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙚 𝙞𝙣 𝙁𝙤𝙤𝙙 𝙏𝙚𝙘𝙝𝙣𝙤𝙡𝙤𝙜𝙮 𝙥𝙧𝙤𝙜𝙧𝙖𝙢 of the 𝙐𝙣𝙞𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙨𝙞𝙩𝙮 𝙤𝙛 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙋𝙝𝙞𝙡𝙞𝙥𝙥𝙞𝙣𝙚𝙨 𝙑𝙞𝙨𝙖𝙮𝙖𝙨 continues to strengthen industry-academe partnerships through 𝓕𝓣 195 – 𝓘𝓷𝓽𝓮𝓻𝓷𝓼𝓱𝓲𝓹 𝓲𝓷 𝓘𝓷𝓭𝓾𝓼𝓽𝓻𝓲𝓮𝓼, a technical course that provides students with hands-on experience in the food industry.

This year, 𝙛𝙞𝙛𝙩𝙚𝙚𝙣 (15) 𝘽𝙎 𝙁𝙤𝙤𝙙 𝙏𝙚𝙘𝙝𝙣𝙤𝙡𝙤𝙜𝙮 𝙨𝙩𝙪𝙙𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙨 were deployed to partner companies across Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. Assigned to various areas, including production, quality assurance and quality control, research and development, food safety, regulatory affairs, and product innovation, the interns gained valuable industry experience while enhancing their technical, communication, and professional skills.

To ensure that the internship remains a meaningful learning experience, internship coordinators Ms. Marielle J. Yap, PFT, and Ms. Mary Pauline A. Jance, PFT, conducted progress monitoring visits from July 13 to 18, 2026. The visits assessed the students' learning progress, gathered feedback from industry supervisors, and further strengthened UPV's collaboration with its internship partners.

The UPV BS Food Technology program extends its sincere appreciation to its industry partners and supervisors for their invaluable mentorship and support in developing the next generation of food technologists. Their continued collaboration reflects a shared commitment in preparing graduates who are ready to contribute to the advancement of the Philippine food industry while upholding the university’s core values of 𝙝𝙤𝙣𝙤𝙧, 𝙚𝙭𝙘𝙚𝙡𝙡𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙚, 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙨𝙚𝙧𝙫𝙞𝙘𝙚.

📢𝘾𝘼𝙇𝙇 𝙁𝙊𝙍 𝘿𝙊𝙉𝘼𝙏𝙄𝙊𝙉𝙎 𝙁𝙊𝙍 𝙏𝙃𝙀 𝙅𝘼𝙈𝙀𝙍𝙊 𝙁𝘼𝙈𝙄𝙇𝙔📢

Dear Friends, Colleagues, Alumni, and Kindhearted Benefactors,

Warm greetings of peace and hope.

We humbly appeal for your compassion and generosity on behalf of our dear colleague and dedicated faculty member of the School of Technology (SOTECH), Ma'am Johanna C. Jamero, whose family is facing one of the greatest challenges of their lives.

For many years, Ma'am Johanna has faithfully served the SOTECH community through teaching, mentoring, research, and service. As a faculty member of the BS Food Technology and MS Food Science programs, she has helped shape and inspire future food scientists and food technologists with unwavering dedication. Even before joining the faculty, and continuing to this day, she has also selflessly served the SOTECH Alumni community, generously sharing her time and talents to strengthen the bonds within our institution and support its many initiatives.

Today, however, she finds herself in a different role, not as a teacher or mentor, but as a devoted mother caring for her beloved son. Following a major surgical operation, her son experienced unforeseen postoperative complications that required prolonged hospitalization, intensive medical care, and continuous treatment. As a result, the family's hospital expenses have reached more than one million pesos.

Despite exhausting their personal savings and receiving assistance from government agencies and charitable institutions, a substantial hospital balance remains before their son can be discharged and continue his recovery at home. Like any loving parent, Ma'am Johanna and her family have done everything within their means to give their son the best chance to heal. At this difficult time, they need the support of a compassionate community.

We sincerely invite you to extend whatever assistance you can. No contribution is too small, and every donation will help ease the family's remaining hospital and medical expenses. 🤲🎁
