As part of โThe Upside: The Journey Inside Out,โ Ms. Laica Arguilles, a Peer Facilitator from the University of the Philippines Visayas (UPV), delivered an engaging and heartfelt talk on building resilience, managing emotions, and thriving amid academic challenges. Drawing from her leadership experiences as a former Vice President for Non-Academics of the Iloilo Federation for Junior Philippine Institute of Accountants (JPIA), and active UPV Peer Facilitator, Ms. Arguilles imparted practical insights on how students can develop emotional balance and foster peer support within their communities.
Her talk formed part of UPHSIโs psychosocial activity organized by the Guidance and Counseling Services Unit (GCSU) in collaboration with the UPV Peer Facilitators and the University of the Philippines High School in Iloilo (UPHSI) Junior Peer Facilitators (JPFs). Moreover, the session encouraged students to reflect on their emotional well-being, strengthen resilience, and navigate high school life with mindfulness and confidence.
Through this partnership, UPHSI and UPV continue to uphold their shared commitment to promoting student well-being and holistic development, empowering learners to grow with compassion, courage, and self-awareness.

OSA, UPHSI hold psychosocial activity to foster healthy connections among students
As part of the 78th Anniversary of the UP Presence in Iloilo and in celebration of the Mental Health Month in October, the Office of Student Affairs (OSA), through its Guidance and Counseling Services Unit (GCSU), held its annual psychosocial activity with the theme โThe Upside: The Journey Inside Outโ on October 29, 2025, at the UPV Auditorium, Iloilo City campus.
True to their commitment to serve, the Junior Peer Facilitators (JPF) led their peers from grades 7 and 11 to help them adjust to new academic environments and promote mental health and emotional well-being.
Dr. Sheila A. Javier, GCSU Coordinator, opened the program by emphasizing the value of psychosocial support in education. This was followed by Prof. Raphael V. Belleza, OIC of the UP High School in Iloilo, who highlighted teamwork and adaptability among students.
Ms. Laica Arguilles, speaking on behalf of the UPV Peer Facilitators, delivered an engaging discussion titled โThe High School Survival Kit: Thriving and Building Resilience in High School,โ sharing insights on coping strategies, emotional management, and peer support.
Students also took part in group discussions, a banner-making activity, and an โAmazing Raceโ inspired by Disneyโs โInside Out 2โ movie, where teams represented different emotions and worked together to complete challenges.
The program, initiated by the GCSU, forms part of the Universityโs ongoing efforts to promote student well-being through psychosocial support activities and seeks to help learners navigate academic transitions, strengthen social connections, and build resilience in both school and personal life.
