From its establishment in 1971, the University’s BA Political Science program has evolved into a world-class quality training ground for the nation’s public servants, government officials, civil servants, diplomats, legal professionals, development workers, and top academics. It is a far cry from its original, traditional undergraduate program in liberal arts as it has always adapted to the demands of the ever-changing environment.

As the program celebrates its 55th year of existence, it is proud of its accomplishments and its contributions to the Philippine political science community and to the wider community.

Today, the UST Department of Political Science hosted “Beyond the Bloodlines: Defining the Future of Philippine Governance.” This forum serves as the Department’s contribution to the university-wide commemoration of the 40th Anniversary of EDSA People Power. 🇵🇭

We were honored to have Dean Julio Teehankee, a leading expert on political dynasties and Co-Convenor of the Anti-Dynasty Network, as our guest speaker. The discussion tackled the deep-seated issues caused by political dynasties, and the continued challenges in enacting a strong anti-dynasty law in Congress.

This initiative reflects our commitment to fostering informed public discourse and helping shape a more inclusive future for Philippine governance. 🐯

The UST Department of Political Science together with The Political Science Forum, commemorates in the spirit of the 40th Anniversary of the EDSA People Power and celebration of our democracy, through the forum entitled: “Beyond the Bloodlines: Defining the Future of Philippine Governance.”

The Forum highlights the prestigious keynote speaker, a well-respected political scientist known as an expert on Philippine politics and an advocate against political dynasties in our country.

On February 12, 2026, the presidents of the premiere professional associations, Dr. Reynold Agnes of
the Philippine Politcal Science Association and Dr. Ederson Tapia of the Philippine Society for Public Administration, graced the forum entitled “From Theory to Praxis.” Part of the discussion was how their Thomasian identity has helped them navigate the complexities of their professions and their respective disciplines.

The forum’s goal was to bridge the gap between theory and practice. It was also meant as a homecoming for both leaders of PSPA and PPSA as the UST Department of Political Science celebrates its 10th year anniversary and the program’s 55th anniversary.

The UST Department of Political Science, together with the Philippine Society for Public Administration and the Philippine Political Science Association, presents “From Theory to Praxis: Thomasian Leadership in the Frontiers of Political Science and Public Administration.”

Gearing towards the 10th Anniversary of the UST Department of Political Science and 55th Anniversary of the degree— Political Science in the University, the Department, PPSA, and PSPA will provide a rare platform for students to understand how the disciplines of Political Science and Public Administration intersect to fortify good governance and democratic politics in the Philippines.

Featuring the two distinguished UST Alumni in the Political Science field, led by Thomasians— Dr. Reynold D. Agnes, President of the Philippine Political Science Association (PPSA), and Dr. Ederson DT. We’re proud that our Department Chair, Dr. Dennis C. Coronacion, was the inaugural speaker of the Philippine Political Science Association’s President’s Lecture Forum held at Mindanao State University Maguindanao last November 14-15, 2025.

Dr. Coronacion was the PPSA President from 2021-2023. He is currently an Ex-Officio member of the PPSA Board of Trustees.
