The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) will conduct the “Know Your Ground: Essential Earthquake Preparedness Seminar” on October 29, 2025, to arm the people with the knowledge and skills needed to prepare for and stay safe during earthquakes. The activity stresses the importance of awareness, readiness, and action in saving lives when disasters strike.

School Breaks: From Corridors to Rubble

What used to be the lively and noisy corridors of Almacen-Torrevillas National High School (ATNHS) in Medellin town now lie in rubble and debris after the catastrophic 6.9 magnitude earthquake on September 30, 2025.

The brutal power of the quake left the main three-storey school building with severe damage, rendering it entirely unusable and unsafe.

In compliance with the Local Government Unit of Medellin's advisories on damaged infrastructure, all classes are suspended until further notice. The school breaks, tragically, are extending indefinitely as Altorians face this crisis.

The third floor of the three-storey building is currently inaccessible and poses a high immediate risk. The entire Senior High School (SHS) campus requires a thorough assessment from a qualified structural engineer before any further action can be taken.

We ask for continued prayers and support for the ATNHS family as we navigate this challenging path toward recovery and rebuilding.
