The NSTP Office of Southern Bicol Colleges sincerely extends its deepest gratitude to the Masbate City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO), headed by Mr. Isaias F. Bigol, Jr., along with his dedicated training team, for the successful conduct of the 3-day Orientation on First Aid, Basic Life Support (BLS), Emergency Response Training, and Orientation on the Conduct of an Earthquake Drill, held last June 2–4, 2025 at SBC.

This invaluable initiative—set to be delivered in four batches—has already made a significant impact, beginning with our second-year BS Nursing students. The training equipped them with essential, life-saving knowledge and practical skills, including:

✔️ First Aid
✔️ Bandaging & Splinting
✔️ Emergency Carries
✔️ Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
✔️ Foreign Body Airway Obstruction Management
✔️ Spine Board Handling
✔️ Earthquake Drill Phases & Evacuation Protocols

More than fulfilling a curricular requirement under the NSTP program, this training has empowered our students—our future nurses and community responders—to act with confidence and competence in emergency situations, both within clinical settings and in their communities.

We are truly grateful to CDRRMO for their unwavering commitment to disaster preparedness and public safety. Your partnership strengthens our shared mission of building a more resilient, well-prepared, and disaster-ready generation.

We look forward to many more meaningful collaborations in the future. 💙

Please be informed that today’s scheduled Community Immersion (April 12, 2025) is officially postponed due to the extreme heat index recorded in our area. This decision is made in consideration of everyone’s health and safety.

Please note, however, that immersion hours for April 12 will still be counted, even if the actual activity has been cancelled for the day.

We understand the eagerness of everyone to fulfill this requirement, but your well-being remains our top priority.

Stay safe and cool, everyone.

Heat Index in two Bicol provinces to reach danger level today

The heat index in parts of the Bicol Region is expected to soar to dangerous levels this Saturday, April 12, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

Based on reports from PAGASA’s Synoptic Stations, the highest heat index for the day may reach up to 42°C in Virac, Catanduanes and Masbate City, Masbate—levels considered dangerous and potentially harmful to health.

Here are the forecasted heat index levels across key areas in Bicol:

• Daet, Camarines Norte: 39°C

• Pili, Camarines Sur: 40°C

• Legazpi City, Albay: 39°C

• Juban, Sorsogon: 38°C

• Virac, Catanduanes: 42°C

• Masbate City, Masbate: 42°C

Health officials warn that extreme heat can lead to heat cramps, exhaustion, and in severe cases, heat stroke.

The public is advised to wear or carry sun protection, stay hydrated, and remain indoors as much as possible during peak heat hours.
