On May 12, 2026, The Maritime Academy of Asia and the Pacific (MAAP) proudly celebrates its recognition in the 2026 World University Rankings for Innovation (WURI), ranking 356th among the Top 500 public and private higher education institutions worldwide.

Among Philippine higher education institutions, MAAP ranked 100th. In Central Luzon (Region III), MAAP placed 15th and stands as the only maritime school from the region included in the prestigious Top 500 list. MAAP also ranked 9th among maritime schools in the Philippines.

This global recognition highlights MAAP’s commitment to innovation, excellence, digital transformation, sustainability, and future-ready maritime education. The Academy was recognized in 5 WURI categories:
✔ A2. Student Mobility and Openness: 32nd place
✔ A4. Entrepreneurial Culture & Eco System: 60th place
✔ B3. Digital and AI Transformation in Strategy and Management: 72nd place
✔ B7. Cost-Benefit Management: 36th place
✔ C3. Curricular Innovation for Future-Readiness: 92nd place

These achievements reflect MAAP’s continuing pursuit of globally relevant, innovative, and transformative maritime education aligned with international standards and sustainable development goals.

MARINO PH | Vice Admiral Santos Highlights Human Factor in Maritime Training

Vice Admiral Eduardo Ma. R. Santos, representing the Maritime Academy of Asia and the Pacific (MAAP), emphasized the importance of the human factor in maritime education during the SAFETY4SEA Manila Forum 2026.

He highlighted simulator-based training using realistic scenarios to improve crew performance and better prepare cadets for real-life situations at sea. Continuous upgrades in training equipment were also noted.

Santos underscored that while technology continues to advance, effective ship operations still depend on the competence, mindset, and readiness of seafarers, with safety culture remaining a key priority.
