"Because at the end of the day, it is not just about selling shoes.
It is about strengthening the ecosystem that sustains the industry.
It is about ensuring that the craftsmanship of Marikina continues to evolve alongside the tools and platforms of the modern economy."
In support of advancing digital entrepreneurship among micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), TikTok Shop, in collaboration with the Department of Trade and Industry โ National Capital Regional Office (DTI-NCRO), the Filipino Footwear Alliance Association (FFAA), and the Marikina Polytechnic College ReSOLES Technology Business Incubator (MPC ReSOLES TBI), successfully conducted โUNLAD LOKAL: Start Your TikTok Shop Journey Todayโ on March 11, 2026, at the Center for Innovation and Technology for Enterprises (CITE).
The initiative aimed to introduce entrepreneurs, aspiring online sellers, and content creators to the opportunities within the TikTok Shop ecosystem while equipping them with practical knowledge on establishing and managing their digital storefronts.
The program opened with registration and document pre-validation, ensuring that participants were prepared for the on-the-spot seller onboarding session. The event formally commenced with opening remarks from key partners, followed by a keynote message from DTI-NCRO emphasizing the importance of digital readiness among local enterprises. MPC ReSOLES TBI, representing Marikina Polytechnic College, also delivered a message underscoring the vital role of innovation and entrepreneurship in sustaining the growth and competitiveness of the footwear and leathercraft sector.
A key highlight of the event was the On-the-Spot Seller Onboarding session, where participants were guided through the step-by-step process of creating their TikTok Shop Seller Center accounts. Facilitated by the TikTok Education Team, the hands-on activity provided real-time technical assistance, enabling attendees to complete account registration, link financial details, and submit required business documents. This interactive session ensured that participants left the program with operational digital storefronts ready for use.
In the afternoon, the program shifted to capacity-building discussions focused on digital marketing and platform optimization. Participants were introduced to TikTok Shop features, content creation strategies, affiliate marketing, and livestream selling techniques. The session also highlighted current fashion and content trends, demonstrating how creative storytelling and audience engagement can significantly enhance product visibility and drive online sales performance.
The program concluded with insights on TikTok Shop advertising strategies, followed by a networking and consultation session with platform experts. Overall, the UNLAD LOKAL initiative served as a valuable platform in empowering local entrepreneurs with the tools, knowledge, and confidence to participate in the digital economy. Through collaborative efforts, MPC ReSOLES TBI and its partners continue to strengthen the capacity of Filipino enterprises to expand their market reach and remain competitive in an increasingly digital marketplace.

Innovation, creativity, and Filipino craftsmanship took center stage on Day 1 of the Higher Education Summit, held from March 10โ12, 2026, as Marikina Polytechnic College (MPC) showcased cutting-edge footwear and leathercraft designs at the SMX Convention Center in Clark, Pampanga, alongside higher education leaders, institutions, and stakeholders gathered from across the country.
Led by College President Dr. Rene M. Colocar, the ReSOLES Technology Business Incubator (TBI) mounted an exhibit highlighting innovative shoe and leathercraft products designed and manufactured by MPCโs startup incubatees, students, and award-winning footwear designers.
The booth quickly became a point of interest for summit participants. Among those who visited the exhibit were Commission on Higher Education(CHED) Chairperson Dr. Shirley C. Agrupis, Rep. Jude Avorque Acidre, and CHED Commissioner Michelle Aguilar Ong, joined by 22 State University and College (SUC) presidents under her jurisdiction, as well as numerous university representatives and students from across the country.
MPC was one of only three higher education institutions nationwide selected to showcase at the summit. This participation highlights the Collegeโs mandate under Republic Act No. 9289, which designates MPC as the Center for Development of the Philippine Shoe and Leathercraft Industry and tasks it with advancing technological, professional, and occupational training for community-based enterprises.
Adding creativity and excitement to the exhibit was a display of stunning footwear entries from the Filipino Footwear Design Competition, an annual footwear competition in the Philippines that has been running for 10 years. The ReSOLES TBI also expresses its sincere gratitude to the talented designers for their creativity and for allowing their designs to be showcased, highlighting the artistry and innovation of Filipino footwear design.
Through initiatives such as this exhibit, Marikina Polytechnic College continues to strengthen its leadership in footwear innovation while preserving the proud legacy of the Philippine shoe and leathercraft industry.

โInnovation already exists in Marikina โ it only needs structure.โ
With the goal of promoting and advancing the shoe and leathercraft industry through institutional initiatives, Dr. Medardo B. Bombita, Project Lead of MPC ReSOLES TBI, represented Marikina Polytechnic College during the first-ever Filipino Footwear Forum on February 27, 2026, held at the DOST-PTRI TELA Gallery in Bicutan, Taguig City.
In his presentation, he underscored MPCโs mandate to champion the shoe and leathercraft industry and highlighted the role of ReSOLES TBI as the countryโs only technology business incubator dedicated to this sector. He also presented the milestones of Cohort 1 and formally introduced the newly launched Cohort 2, marking another step forward in structured innovation.
The goal is clear โ through this forum spearheaded by DOST-PTRI, industry disruptors are being called upon to help revitalize the enduring legacy of Marikinaโs shoe and leathercraft industry, with MPC ReSOLES TBI at the helm of driving innovation, sustainability, and growth.
