Tips for Effective Speaking for Candidates.

Are you running as a candidate in the next elections? Here are my top tips for you to become an effective speaker during campaign season:

Know your brand. No matter how smart or how new you are in politics, we cannot craft great messages if you don't know who you are. Making this decision is your first important step. Traditional examples: Are you a candidate for laborers? for youth? Will you focus on urban planning? Will you focus on servant leadership? The list goes on. I would usually advise my clients to know what their area really needs.

Become a strategist in communication. The most important training my clients go through is strategic communication. You have to be smart and mindful enough with what you need to say, we want people to believe us and not offend them. My #1 tip in becoming strategic? Learn how to be good at listening and asking questions before speaking. A lot of candidates are very egoistic and can't listen and be empathetic to their audience. Remove your ego and I promise you, you'll know what to say.

Rehearse aloud. In my experience, you don't need a lot of speeches to get through the campaign season, what you need is a clear, focused and mastered speech. This will help you be remembered and truly look credible with your voters. Too many half-baked speeches will confuse your audience. Rehearsing your speeches aloud will help you develop the confidence in speaking to your voters. Remember, sometimes it takes 5,10 or 15 mins to convince someone to vote for you. Being a lousy speaker can lead to missed opportunities to get that.

To end this short article, I'd like to emphasize the importance of speaking in leadership. As a candidate, if you truly care about serving the people, please be responsible enough to develop yourself. Voters today deserve leaders that focus on working hard on themselves. Our country's future depends on it.
