Today, we celebrate the International Day of Light. It is celebrated every May 16, as it marks the anniversary of the first successful operation of the laser in 1960 by Theodore Maiman, a physicist and engineer.

It is a day where we recognize how light plays a vital role and impacts our everyday lives. From scientific discoveries and technological advancements to education and sustainable development, light plays an essential role in guiding progress and innovation.

Beyond these practical purposes, light also serves as a symbol of knowledge and hope. It reminds us that even the smallest spark can brighten the darkest moments and lead us toward better understanding and new possibilities.

May this day make us appreciate the uses and importance of light, as well as keep seeking knowledge and becoming a source of light to those around us. ✨

Today, May 15, 2026, is the deadline for filing the 2025 Annual Income Tax Return in the Philippines. It was originally set for April 15, but the deadline was extended for a month to give taxpayers more time to complete their returns and submit the necessary documents.

The Annual Income Tax Return is a report filed with the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) to declare taxpayers' income earned and determine its corresponding tax due. It is one of the most important requirements for individuals and businesses.

As FinMan students, knowing these key dates and information helps us understand the handling of taxes, which is vital in a country. Happy Learning! ✨

Between 1898–1899, the First Philippine Republic under General Emilio Aguinaldo issued its own coins and paper money—marking one of the earliest symbols of Philippine independence 🇵🇭

Revolutionary currencies included copper two-centavo coins minted in Malolos and paper notes such as “Un Peso” and “Cinco Pesos.” 🪙However, these were later withdrawn and declared illegal following the American takeover.

Following this period, the Philippine monetary system underwent significant changes under foreign rule, influencing not only the structure of the currency but also the language used in it. After World War II, the Philippines also used “Victory” notes, symbolizing a nation reclaiming control over its economy and identity.

Indeed, the evolution of our currency reflects our journey toward independence and financial sovereignty.

Ngayong araw, inaalala natin ang katapangan at sakripisyo ng mga bayaning Pilipino na matatag na lumaban para sa ating kalayaan. Ipinapaalala nito sa atin ang tunay na kahulugan ng lakas ng loob sa gitna ng takot at pagsubok.

Patuloy na nabubuhay ang kanilang mga alaala bilang tanda na ang tunay na kagitingan ay makikita hindi lamang sa digmaan, kundi sa paninindigan sa tama.

Nawa’y magsilbi itong inspirasyon upang isapuso natin ang diwa ng tapang at katatagan sa ating pang-araw-araw na buhay—hindi lamang para sa ating mga sarili, kundi para sa buong sambayanang Pilipino. 🇵🇭

In this command, we are reminded of the true essence of the Last Supper—love expressed through service and sacrifice. Just as Christ showed unconditional love through His actions, may we also extend kindness, compassion, and understanding to others.
