JUSTICE FOR ALYSSA ALANO! DEFEND NEGROS19! END STATE VIOLENCE!

Outrage and indignation echo across our country as we confront another grave injustice on the violent death of Alyssa Alano, a student leader, an Iskolar ng Bayan, and a human rights defender who dedicated her life to serving the oppressed. Her loss is a manifestation of a system that continues to weaponize force against civilians and silence those who dare to challenge injustice.

The Dentistry Student Council condemns, in the strongest and most uncompromising terms, the militarization and repression that has turned communities in Negros into zones of fear and displacement. The forced evacuation of hundreds of families is a humanitarian crisis born out of policies that prioritize militarized control over the welfare and dignity of the people. When communities are driven from their homes at gunpoint, when civilians are caught in the crossfire of state operations, the promise of democracy is hollowed out and reduced to empty rhetoric.

Alyssa Alano stood alongside farmers and marginalized sectors not as an enemy of the state, but as a defender of justice and human dignity. She embodied the highest ideals of public servic by choosing solidarity over comfort, courage over silence, and truth over convenience. To portray her as a mere casualty of an alleged β€œencounter” is to erase her humanity and perpetuate a dangerous narrative that blurs the line between civilian and combatant. Such narratives have long been used to justify violence, obscure accountability, and shield perpetrators from justice.

This injustice does not stand alone. It reflects a broader pattern of state violence, impunity, and the systematic repression of dissent. Across the country, activists, organizers, journalists, and community leaders continue to face harassment, surveillance, red-tagging, enforced disappearance, and extrajudicial killing. These acts are not random but are political. They are designed to intimidate, to silence, and to preserve entrenched structures of inequality and exploitation.

We reject the criminalization of activism. We reject the labeling of solidarity as subversion. We reject the normalization of violence against those who organize, educate, and mobilize communities for change. The struggle for social justice is not a crime. Defending human rights is not terrorism. Standing with the oppressed is not rebellion it is a moral duty.

Accountability must be pursued with urgency and resolve. We call for an independent, transparent, and impartial investigation. Justice cannot exist where impunity prevails. Guns cannot resolve inequality. Force cannot extinguish the legitimate demands of the people for land, livelihood, and dignity. A state that fails to hold perpetrators accountable becomes complicit in the very violence it claims to prevent.

We stand in solidarity with the people of Negros and with all communities resisting violence and oppression. We honor the memory of Alyssa Alano not only through mourning, but through action and commitment to justice.

Justice for Alyssa Alano.
Justice for the victims of the brutal events in Negros.
Justice for all human rights defenders and activists who have been killed or remain missing.

End impunity. Hold the perpetrators accountable. Defend human rights. Dismantle state repression!
