The Hindu KUSH is an 800-kilometre-long mountain range in Central and South Asia to the west of the Himalayas.

It stretches from central and eastern Afghanistan into northwestern Pakistan and far southeastern Tajikistan.

While the Tibetan plateau is hypothesized to be the birthplace of Cannabis sativa, the Kush valley is purported to be the birthplace of Indica subspecies.

It is for this reason that a lot of Indica varieties were named after this area.

However, the original Kush chemovar may have been lost to hybridization in legal and illegal jurisdictions.

In the Philippines, the term has been applied to all non-landrace Cannabis.
