Today’s Korean Grammar : (이)나

This particle is used to connect two or more things on an equal footing, or to indicate that only one of the presented nouns can be chosen. It is mainly used to present alternatives or list various possibilities.

📌 How to use :
Noun + (이)나

----------------------------------

이나 is used after a noun that ends with a consonant.

• 신문이나 잡지를 봐요.
• 수박이나 딸기를 사요.
• 물이나 우유를 마셔요.

나 is used after a noun that ends with a vowel.

• 바다나 산에 가요.
• 축구나 수영을 해요.
• 한국어나 영어를 배워요.

Examples :
• 목이 말라요. 물이나 주스 주세요.
- I’m thirsty. Please give me some water or juice.

• 아침에 커피나 밥을 먹어요.
- In the mornings, I drink coffee or eat rice.

This particle expresses a direction (toward a place). It means ‘to’ or ‘toward’ in English.

It is also used when expressing means of transport, other means, tools and materials to make something and corresponds to ‘by’ or ‘with/using’ in English.

• 왼쪽으로 가세요.
• 콩으로 만들어요.
• 젓가락으로 먹어요.

로 is used after a noun that ends with a vowel or with a ㄹ final consonant.

• 비행기로 왔어요.
• 지하철로 갈 거예요.
• 한국어로 말하세요.

Examples :
• 엄마가 딸기로 잼을 만들었어요.
- Mom made a jam from strawberries.

• 여기에서 오른쪽으로 가세요.
- Please go to the right from here.
