The Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP), through the Research Institute for Human and Social Development (RIHSD), signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Council for the Welfare of Children (CWC) on 07 April 2026.

Anchored in a shared vision of an inclusive and child-friendly nation, PUP-RIHSD and CWC have agreed to collaborate on research that matters. This partnership further strengthens their commitment to producing research that is rigorous, ethical, and responsive to the needs of decision- and policy-makers, particularly in advancing the rights and welfare of children.

The signing was attended by CWC Executive Director Undersecretary Angelo Tapales, Division Chief Vladimir Cabrera (Policy Planning and Research Division), and their team, along with PUP Vice President for Research, Extension and Development Dr. Anna Ruby P. Gapasin, RIHSD Director Melcah P. Monsura, and their team.

Through this partnership, RIHSD reaffirms its commitment to translating research into meaningful action for communities and stakeholders, in keeping with the Sintang Paaralanโ€™s enduring principle: Mula Sa โ€™Yo, Para sa Bayan.

[ICYMI] It was a productive week for the RIHSD Director and Center Chiefs, who facilitated and attended exploratory meetings for potential research collaborations with various agencies, both locally and internationally. A reflection of never-ending and never-tiring commitment of our Institute to produce research that matters.

On 09 February 2026, the RIHSD facilitated an exploratory meeting with Naparat Kranrattanasuit of Mahidol University via Zoom. The meeting was hosted by Chief John Amiel Rivera (RIHSD-CPJIGS), Chief Celso Tan Jr. (RIHSD-CEBS), and Chief Werllie P. Bueno (RIHSD-CSSES). The meeting aimed to explore collaboration in research and extension programs between the two (2) universities.

On 10 February 2026, Chief Werllie P. Bueno, Chief Chloe Nicole D. Piamonte (RIHSD-CSIS), and Chief Diosdado P. Franco (RIHSD-CCDS) attended the Research Consortium on Childrenโ€™s Rights regular meeting conducted by the Council for the Welfare of Children in Quezon City. The PUP-RIHSD is a member of the consortium and continues to be part in advancing research-based policy on childrenโ€™s rights.

Also on 10 February 2026, the RIHSD-CPJIGS, led by Chief John Amiel Rivera, facilitated a coordination meeting with faculty researchers for the 2026 policy reviews. This initiative strengthens the Centerโ€™s mandate to review and assess university policies aimed at building a more inclusive and sustainable community.

On 12 February 2026, an exploratory meeting with the Department of Migrant Workers was held. It was attended by Chief John Amiel Rivera, Chief Celso Tan Jr., Chief Mandy Felicia (RIHSD-CLIRS), and Chief Werllie P. Bueno, as well as Ms. Maui Oreiro and Mr. Mark Espina of the DMW-Institute for Advanced and Strategic Studies on Migration and Development (IASSMD). The meeting explored possible research and extension collaborations between the two agencies.

From collaboration talks with a Thai university to discussions with the Department of Migrant Workers, these consecutive meetings reflect RIHSDโ€™s strengthened commitment for 2026 to produce research that matters, guided by Sintang Paaralanโ€™s principle ๐‘€๐‘ข๐‘™๐‘Ž ๐‘†๐‘Ž โ€™๐‘Œ๐‘œ, ๐‘ƒ๐‘Ž๐‘Ÿ๐‘Ž ๐‘ ๐‘Ž ๐ต๐‘Ž๐‘ฆ๐‘Ž๐‘›.
