The competition seeks original visual artworks that critically engage with and reflect on the intersections of gender and education. Submissions may take the form of:

• Two-dimensional art forms (e.g., painting, drawing, digital illustration)
• Three-dimensional art forms (e.g., sculpture, pottery, installation, assemblage)
• Other experimental and emerging art forms

Selected and winning entries may be featured in PRISMA: Gender and Education e-Journal, subject to editorial review and publication requirements. Artists are encouraged to submit works that demonstrate creativity, originality, and meaningful contributions to ongoing conversations on gender equity, diversity, inclusion, and education.

We invite you to submit your papers for publication in PRISMA: Gender and Education e-journal Volume 3.

PRISMA: Gender and Education E-Journal is a peer-reviewed journal by the Philippine Normal University that publishes original contributions on gender studies and its emergent issues. The journal is an annual publication that covers an extensive array of education themes using gender as a lens.

PRISMA provides a unique platform for knowledge sharing regarding, among other topics, pedagogy, curriculum, technology integration, teaching and learning, assessment and evaluation, educational leadership, teacher education – across the lifespan (early childhood care and development, basic education, tertiary, technical and vocational education, family and community, non-formal, informal and lifelong learning).

PRISMA accepts the following types of submissions:
• Research Articles (max. of 6,000 words)
• Review Articles (3,500 - 4,000 words)
• Book Reviews (2,000 - 3,000 words)
• Policy Briefs (800 - 1000 words)
• Creative Works

a. Literary Arts (Fiction or nonfiction works - max. of 4000 words; Literary - 1 to 3 poems submission of not more than 3000 words in total)
b. Visual Arts (two-dimensional art forms, three-dimensional art forms, and other experimental and emerging art forms)

In line with this mission, we are proud to present the Article of the Quarter from PRISMA: Gender and Education E-Journal — a platform that highlights scholarly work at the intersection of gender and education.

𝐓𝐢𝐭𝐥𝐞: Filipinoism, Feminism, and Dalagang Bukid

𝐀𝐛𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭: This study explores how Hermogenes Ilagan's Dalagang Bukid depicts Filipino culture and the role of women to achieve a more accurate representation. This investigates the plot structure, depiction of social class, and the portrayal of women in the 1919 compared to contemporary realities. It reveals the distinct cultural values such as the Filipino affinity for conflict and drama, as well as the importance of resilience and pride. The study also shows how the proud but flawed high-class and the humble, value-oriented low-class are distinguished by class. The portrayal of women in Dalagang Bukid reflects early 20th century ideals of femininity, family-centered, and aspirational, while modern women are characterized by independence and self-determination. The study contributes to the discourse on gender and cultural representation in Philippine literature and encourages further study on the evolving depiction of marginalized groups in traditional forms of drama.
