AT 92, SHE WON — PROVING AGE IS NOT A LIMIT 🏆

A 92-year-old Japanese senior, Hisako Sakai, has won a Tekken 8 tournament, becoming one of the oldest esports champions on record.

The competition was organized by Japan’s Care Esports Association to promote active aging, mental sharpness, and social engagement among seniors. Sakai defeated fellow elderly players — some in their 80s and 90s — showing that learning, strategy, and competitiveness do not fade with age.

For the Philippines, this is a timely reminder:
👉 Seniors are not a burden — they are a resource.
👉 Aging should mean opportunity, not exclusion.
👉 With the right programs, our lolos and lolas can still thrive in a digital world.

In 1992, the United Nations proclaimed December 3 as the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.This is a global reminder to uphold rights, dignity, and inclusion (United Nations, 2021).

This day is not just about awareness, but it
is about action, solidarity, and building a world where everyone belongs in an inclusive and equal community.
Disabilities may be visible or non-apparent whether deafness, intellectual and learning disabilities,psychosocial conditions, speech and language impairments, or rare illness.

We all are equally protected
under our laws. In the Philippines, we have:

In celebration of Deaf Awareness Week, under Presidential Proclamation No. 829, s. 1991, we honor and empower the Deaf community by raising awareness of their rights and advocating for inclusivity.

This week reminds us of the importance of Filipino Sign Language (FSL) in promoting accessible and inclusive education for all. Together, let us continue to break barriers and celebrate the strength, identity, and culture of the Deaf community. 🧡

In celebration of 𝗘𝗹𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗹𝘆 𝗙𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗼 𝗪𝗲𝗲𝗸 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱, the PUP GEDSIO – Center for Inclusivity and Diversity successfully conducted the webinar “𝘼𝙜𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝘿𝙞𝙜𝙣𝙞𝙩𝙮: 𝙐𝙣𝙙𝙚𝙧𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙣𝙙𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙎𝙩𝙖𝙩𝙪𝙨 𝙤𝙛 𝙊𝙡𝙙𝙚𝙧 𝙋𝙚𝙧𝙨𝙤𝙣𝙨 𝙞𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙋𝙝𝙞𝙡𝙞𝙥𝙥𝙞𝙣𝙚𝙨” last 𝗢𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝟲, 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱 via Zoom. With the theme “Embracing Age: Living a Life with Dignity and Purpose," the event provided a meaningful discussion on the current status, challenges, and contributions of older Filipinos in today’s society.

We were honored to have 𝗗𝗿. 𝗖𝗵𝗿𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝗝𝗼𝘆 𝗣. 𝗖𝗿𝘂𝘇, 𝘼𝙨𝙨𝙞𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙣𝙩 𝙋𝙧𝙤𝙛𝙚𝙨𝙨𝙤𝙧 𝙖𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙐𝙣𝙞𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙨𝙞𝙩𝙮 𝙤𝙛 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙋𝙝𝙞𝙡𝙞𝙥𝙥𝙞𝙣𝙚𝙨 𝙋𝙤𝙥𝙪𝙡𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙄𝙣𝙨𝙩𝙞𝙩𝙪𝙩𝙚 (𝙐𝙋𝙋𝙄), who shared insights from the Philippine Longitudinal Study of Ageing and Health Profile (LSAHP). Through this data-driven presentation, participants gained a deeper understanding of the well-being of older persons and the importance of policies and programs that uphold their dignity and quality of life.

By promoting awareness and dialogue on the experiences of older persons, GEDSIO continues to advocate for support between generations, ensuring that inclusivity, equity, and respect remain at the heart of the University’s initiatives.

In celebration of 𝐄𝐥𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐥𝐲 𝐅𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐨 𝐖𝐞𝐞𝐤 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟓, the PUP Gender Equity, Diversity, and Social Inclusion Office (GEDSIO) – Center for Inclusivity and Diversity will be hosting the webinar “𝐀𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐃𝐢𝐠𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲: 𝐔𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐎𝐥𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝐏𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐩𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬” on 𝐎𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝟔, 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟓, from 𝟑:𝟎𝟎–𝟕:𝟎𝟎 𝐏𝐌. Guided by this year’s theme, “𝐄𝐦𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐀𝐠𝐞: 𝐋𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚 𝐋𝐢𝐟𝐞 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐃𝐢𝐠𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐏𝐮𝐫𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐞,” the event will shed light on the conditions, challenges, and contributions of older Filipinos through findings from the Philippine Longitudinal Study of Ageing and Health Profile (LSAHP).
