In celebration of Privacy Awareness Week 2026, the UP OVPDx Data Governance Program hosted a hands-on webinar last May 26, 2026, via MS Teams, with over 60 participants from HR offices, college departments, and IT units.

Led by 𝗗𝗿. 𝗥𝗶𝗮 𝗠𝗮𝗲 𝗛. 𝗕𝗼𝗿𝗿𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗼, participants explored Amnesia by OpenAIRE, learning practical techniques to de-identify student, personnel, and alumni records.

“Once identifiable data is shared unnecessarily, privacy risks emerge. So the question becomes, how can we preserve the usefulness of the data while reducing the risk to individuals? And that's the role of the identification or anonymization,” said Dr. Borromeo.

Building on last year’s workshop that introduced ARX for research datasets, this session continues UP’s practice of strengthening privacy literacy and embedding anonymization into daily workflows. In line with the advocacy of the National Privacy Commission, these initiatives reflect the University’s ongoing commitment to responsible data stewardship and privacy-preserving analytics.
