What is the importance of asking Open-Ended questions for kids?

“Children who are taught to think about things at an early age through open-ended questions are better equipped to understand the world around them, and relate this new information to past or present experiences.”
Using open-ended questions has many benefits to children like:
• Encourage children to think beyond the obvious.
• Encourage children to think of as many possibilities as they can.
• Increase cooperation and understanding.
• Allow children to include more information, feelings, attitudes, and understanding of the topic.
• Provide children with opportunities to explain or describe something, thereby expanding and developing their speech, language, and vocabulary.
• Recall recent or past events that develop children’s short and long-term memory skills.
Asking open-ended questions is a habit you can adopt as part of your daily conversations with children:

Teach phonics and phonemic awareness. Sight words will come as they learn the sounds and how words are used. The children will learn to read as well as comprehend what they are reading and learn how to spell. Use hands-on activities, songs, worksheets, books, and many different types of resources to learn the sounds of the letters and how to sound out words. Make it fun! Make it a game!

If learning is fun, then they will want to play.
If they feel like it’s work, then they will not want to play. They will resist and get bored.

Here is a good article describing ways to start with writing in kindergarten. Kids can be at so many different levels. The part of classroom interaction (conversation with peers) can be done with siblings. You can start by drawing a picture, then writing about the picture. Labeling things in the picture like grass, sun, tree, swings, etc. It helps to find out how many sounds the kid can hear in the words.

Sentence structure comes with practice - you can use different ways to begin sentences using known sight words like:
I like the ______.

We can go to _________.
