Noong 1978, naging isang chartered state university ang PCC at tinawag na Polytechnic University of the Philippines ang ating Sintang Paaralan.

Samahan ang University Cultutal Heritage Committee, Center for Philosophy and Humanities, Research Institute for Culture and Language, Center for Heritage Studies, at University Library katuwang ang Office of Student Services at College of Arts and Letters sa maikli ngunit makabuluhang pagtitipon na ito.

Concept brief:

Building a digital repository can significantly advance gender advocacy by ensuring that gender-sensitive data, research findings, and resources are accessible to a broad audience. According to UN Women, mainstreaming gender in data analysis and advocacy requires not only collecting data but also contextualizing it to generate actionable insights that address systemic gender disparities (Mainstreaming gender into data analysis and advocacy, n.d.). Digital repositories can house diverse datasets, curated studies, and gender-focused resources, empowering researchers and policymakers to analyze trends and develop targeted interventions for gender equality.

An example of a valuable digital repository is the UPFI Film Center’s Audiovisual Collection Catalog, which provides access to films and audiovisual materials that include themes on women, gender, diversity, and inclusivity concerns. By preserving and promoting critical narratives, such repositories serve as powerful tools for fostering deeper understanding and driving advocacy for underrepresented groups. Aligned with initiatives like the Philippine Commission on Women’s 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women (VAW), these platforms amplify awareness by documenting and disseminating essential knowledge that supports the development of gender-responsive policies, programs, and community-based actions.

About AsiaVisions (Philippines, circa 1982 to circa 1999):

Originally named Creative Audio Visual Specialists (CAVS) and considered one of the forerunners of political film collectives in the Philippines, AsiaVisions consciously used film as a medium for counterpropaganda and education, thereby contributing to the people's protest movement against the Marcos dictatorship. It was founded to encourage the development of documentary filmmaking as an art form and to promote its use as an effective tool for mass education. AsiaVisions sought to fully exploit the power of the audiovisual medium to support the people's struggle against all forms of exploitation and oppression. The group aimed to provide an alternative people’s media that would project the struggles and aspirations of the Filipino people while fostering solidarity with other oppressed peoples of the Third World. Since its dissolution, the AsiaVisions AV Collection has been under the receivership of IBON Foundation. The AsiaVisions AV Collection was a recipient of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) - National Committee on Archives (NCA) digitization and digital preservation grants.

Rain or shine, heritage work and theater making process continue.

Yesterday, September 6 Friday, was Day 1 of the PUP@120 Documentary Theater Lecture-Workshop. The PUP Center for Heritage Studies (CHS), on behalf of the PUP University Cultural Heritage Committee (UCHC or Heritage Committee), in collaboration with the Department of Performing Arts and the Kagawaran ng Filipinolohiya, is rolling out a Research Capability Building Activity (RCBA) on DokuTheater that aims to explore the process of theater and performance-making through the use of archival heritage materials. This is part of our celebration of PUP's 120th founding anniversary this October 2024.

This Research Capability Building Activity (RCBA) is part of our ongoing efforts to enhance academic and creative capabilities within our community, aligning with the PUP Vision of becoming "A Leading Comprehensive Polytechnic University in Asia." The development of academic, creative, and research expertise within our academic community is essential in achieving this vision. This RCBA will pave the way for the development of DokuTheater as a key academic, creative, and research interest for the University.

PUP@120 DokuTheater Lecture-Workshop draws inspiration from the collaboration between Goethe-Institut Philippines and German Documentary Theater practitioners Regine Dura and Hans-Werner Kroesinger, who offered 15 slots for theater makers, artists, and practitioners last March 2024 in Lucban, Quezon. PUP Center for Heritage Studies research chief Assoc Prof. Rosemarie Roque was one of them, along with the invited key lecturers-trainers Serena Magiliw and Alon Segarra).

The lecture-workshop will continue this September 10-11 at the College of Engineering and Architecture (CEA) Audio Visual Room (AVR).

In celebration of PUP’s 120th Founding Anniversary, the PUP Center for Heritage Studies is collaborating with the PUP Department of Performing Arts to stage a documentary theatre performance about Dr. Nemesio Prudente.

Dr. Nemesio Prudente was a former president of the Polytechnic University of the Philippines, a human rights advocate, and a political prisoner under the martial law regime of the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos. He was imprisoned for his opposition to martial law and later freed and reinstated as PUP president during President Corazon Aquino's term.

The Department of Performing Arts extends its sincerest gratitude to Assoc. Prof. Rosemarie Roque, Chief of the PUP Center for Heritage Studies, for partnering with us on this meaningful project. We are excited to work together to bring Dr. Prudente’s legacy to the stage.
