Marking the fourth session of Sinayaβs AI Assisted Research Mentoring Workshop series, participants engaged in interactive, hands-on activities focused on leveraging generative AI usage for ethical research creation and mentoring. The culminating session was held on January 23, 2026 at the Dr. Andrew L. Tan Data Science Institute, McKinley Hill, Bonifacio Global City, Taguig City.
Led by Dr. Feorillo A. Demeterio III, Executive Director of the DLSU Research Grants and Management Office, the workshop series offered practical and grounded strategies on integrating AI across key stages of the research process, from developing research questions and navigating literature reviews to refining academic manuscripts and supporting scholarly publications.
During the sharing session, participants openly discussed ongoing concerns about critical thinking in the context of AI use in education, emphasizing the need to strike a balanced and guided approach. One participant shared, βRather than being afraid of students using AI, we need to focus on guiding them.β Another added, AI is not something βto think for us, but to think with us.β Together, these reflections highlighted a shared understanding that AI, when thoughtfully integrated, can support learning while preserving the central role of educators.
As the workshop series concluded, participants expressed a shared sense of confidence and openness toward working with technology, embracing AI as a partner in their ongoing research journeys. The experience fostered a mindset of ethical, innovative, and collaborative engagement with AI-supported research writing, as educators, researchers, and professionals collectively reflected on how technology can meaningfully support scholarly work.
